Proviso Probe

GENERAL, Sunday dump

Don’t pass rumors of infidelity. Welch supporters seem especially fond of this game. Their candidate says he wants to talk about issues, but then his supporters are passing rumors of infidelity on Proviso Probe. If you want your side to be treated with respect, you should conduct yourself in a dignified manner.

Suburban Life (Erick Beiritz) reports Westchester Village President Paul Gattuso is trying to weasel out of using a professional search firm to find the next village manager to save money. Is he trying to install a candidate who will “play ball” instead of someone selected for his/her competence and expertise?

Joseph Lukaszek has been made the new Hillside police chief. See Suburban Life (Debrah Bonn). What do Proviso Probe readers know about the guy? Is he a straight shooter or the type of guy that would cover-up criminal activity by an elected official?

Anybody know about James E. Upshaw a "preacher" who ran Upshaw & Associates out of Westchester? He was just convicted of bilking almost 150 investors. See ConsumerAffairs.com.

Suburban Life (Debrah Bonn):
A senior residential development proposed for a site in Broadview is still not quite what Village President Henry Vicenik has had in mind, but he's optimistic upcoming proposals will fit the plan....

Vicenik said the village is expecting two more development proposals, which he believes will be mixed retail and residential use. He said the idea of subsidized housing is undesirable in the area as the village attempts to attract retail businesses.

He said he'd prefer the project if it were less dense and consisted of individually owned units.

Low-income seniors don't spend so much money, but I suspect they spend a higher percentage of their money close to home.

The Village of Westchester will hold a public hearing 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the courtroom at Village Hall on the proposed residential development west of the Wolf Road Prairie and south of the Ashley Woods subdivision. See Suburban Life. Is there an environmental issue here?

Jerry Blew has resigned from Riverside-Brookfield High School. He had been suspended since November 11, because of allegations of verbal sexual harassment. See Suburban-Life.

Chicago Tribune (Grace Aduroja) writes up Proviso's marching bands going to the Liberty Bowl. I'd still rather have quality academic high schools than schools that have kick-ass marching bands.

St. Joe's beat Notre Dame 54-44 (boys hoops). See Sun-Times (Tina Akouris).

  • A few people have asked me questions about running Proviso Probe.

"How do you get the news?"

"Shouldn't you ask harder questions of Rep. Karen Yarbrough?"

Leave your questions and I'll try to answer them.
