CRIME, local connection to Michael Segal & Near North

Sun-Times (Steve Warmbir):
Segal spread around favors to his friends, such as free insurance to political pals, including Ald. Edward Burke (14th), according to court testimony. Segal also gave more than $125,000 in personal loans to Ald. Burton Natarus (42nd). Burke has denied getting any free insurance; Natarus has said he did work for the money.

Prosecutors early on offered Segal chances to tell all on his political pals, to plead guilty to less-serious crimes and do less time. If Segal had taken the offer in 2002 and pleaded guilty, he would probably already be out of prison, with his company still intact and his Highland Park mansion still his own.

Were any Proviso pols among Segal's political pals?

Campaign contributions from Segal and Near North went to Stroger, but not Eugene Moore.

  • Arnie Bryant is good friends with Segal. Look into who the Bellwood Library has done business with since he has been President of the Board.

  • Use a pseudonym when you post on Proviso Probe. I delete "anonymous" posts.

    BTW, I check the State Board of Elections website. Neither Segal nor Near North employees contributed to any of the politicians mentioned above.

    If you have some specifics, post 'em. But rumors are cheap.
