EVENTS, stuff to do and not do this weekend

Saturday

Governor Rod Blagojevich at El Noa Noa, 3815 W. Lake Street, Stone Park. The scheduled start time is 11:00 AM and the governor is scheduled to appear at 11:45 AM.

On "Viewpoints From the Other Side" Arnie Bryant will interview Latressa Hodges Lumpkin (sp?) of the Westside about pretenders in local politics. Tune to WJJG, 1430 AM, 2-3 PM.

Sunday

Bataan Veterans Memorial, 2:30 PM, First & Oak, Maywood. See Maywood Bataan Day Organization for background.

Sunday evening ABC will air--or might not--The Path to 9/11. The miniseries claims to be based on the 9/11 Commission Report, but contains inaccuracies. The network claims these are dramatizations. However, a number of the portions that are "dramatizations" are the scenes that put the Clinton administration (Democrats) in a poor light. And the real mistakes made by the Bush administration (Republicans) are left out.

Further, the marketing campaign was clearly partisan in nature. Right Wing commentators and bloggers were given copies to help hype the movie. President Bill Clinton and members of his administration depicted in the movie were denied copies.

If you do watch the movie--Doug Elfman (Sun-Times) says the movie is dreadful, like zero stars bad--consider it skeptically.

A large number of people have called for the movie to be pulled. If you want to sign the petition, it's here.

If ABC does broadcast the program without removing the inaccuracies there will probably be some form of boycot against ABC and Disney, the parent company.

  • Great event today given by the Democratic Party of Proviso and the Village of Stone Park, and the cordinator of the event Jesus Martinez(trustee from Stone Park and also on the Proviso Township Board). Standing room only crowd,of estimated 2,0000 people in attendance. Numerous amounts of families and there children in attendance, came to thank the Governor and Karen Yarbrough,Don Harmon and Debra Graham for there support to help families obtain Health insurance,pre-school funding and increase of the minumun wage.
Karen Yarbrough and her husband, Mayor Yarbrough gave rousing speeches, both in English and Spanish, exciting the crowd with the need for participation of all democratic voters this upcoming November.Congreeman Guttierrez also gave a rousing speech, as well as Charles Flowers, who also spoke in Spanish and English. Finally, Governor Blagovich spoke and the crowd erupted in great appaluse and chanted 4 more years,4 more years!!!
All in all a great event!

  • True unity in Proviso?

I thought I'd never witness that! The communities and their leaders stood together to welcome the governor in unity and strength. Even Chris Welch was there along with Karen Yarbrough showing that there is life after elections.

I saw people from the communities of Maywood, Bellwood, Westchester, Broadview, LaGrange Park, Berkeley, Stone Park, Melrose Park, Forest Park, Hillside, Brookfield, Oak Park, even River Forest, wow!
Conspicously absent was Ron Serpico and Ben Mazulla.

Question: How could Mazulla be "outta town when the Guv comes to town? WTF?
