GOV, proposed statement for Broadview hearing on strip club & bar [BV, W]

Monday, March 5, the Village of Broadview board of trustees will consider the application of Chicago Joe's Tea Room, LLC, to for a special use permit to operate a 24/7 strip club & bar.

I can't be there, but I hope someone makes a statement like this...
“I am concerned that Odelson & Sterk have a conflict of interest because of the financial interconnectedness of Odelson & Sterk with James J. Roche & Associates and the individual lawyers who work there.

“While Roche is not the lawyer for Chicago Joe’s Team Room in this matter, he remains listed as the agent for Chicago Joe’s Team Room.

“When Joe Inovskis testified before the plan commission and the zoning board he said that he owned the entire corporation, Chicago Joe’s Team Room, and he described Roche as one of the lawyers who works for him.

“Odelson & Sterk makes considerable money working for James J. Roche & Associates’ Emanuel “Chris” Welch (in his capacity as president of the Proviso Township High Schools board of education). Further, the firms refer work to each other, for example in Orland Hills.

“Recently Burt Odelson and Mark Sterk supervised the lotteries for school board candidates in both District 89 (Maywood and Melrose Park). In both lotteries all the top ballot positions went to allies of Chris Welch. In both cases there were allegations the lotteries were conducted improperly and some people feel Odelson and Sterk implemented rigged lotteries.

“Given these existing relationships between the firm representing the Village of Broadview and one of the firms representing Chicago Joe’s Tea Room I recommend the Village of Broadview table this issue until another firm is hired to replace Odelson & Sterk in this matter.”

    If you or other bloggers can anwser some questions,I'd appreciate it.
    1.Is Don Sloan from Westchester or from melrose Park?
    2.Is Tommy Sloan janitor at 209 related to Don Sloan and trusttee canidiate from Westchester Brian Sloan?
    3.Is Don Sloan the same Don Sloan who had a radio show with Chris Welch and Brian Sloan?
    4.Was Don Sloan once a township trustee with the convicted felon August C. Taddeo?
    5.Is Don Sloan the current township trustee who has authorized for the township to have two seperate attorneys,one representing the supervisor and one reprensenting the trustees?And if this is true,why duplicate services and spend our tax dollars in such an irresponsible way?
    6.Is this the same Don Sloan who has piled hundreds of thousands of dollars in overtime at his job, while he has been campaigning?
    7.Is this the same Don Sloan,who Angelo Luciano refuses to audit his overtime pay at the Westchester-Broadview water commission?
    8.Why Does Angelo Luciano defend him so much?Why does Luciano refuse to show the books on Sloan and the water commission,what is he hiding?
    8.Is this the same person,who is telling Angelo Luciano and Paul Gattusso what to do, and if Angelo Luciano gets re-elected, that Angelo will step down in a year or two and name him as his replacement?
    9.If Sloan is an elected Township trustee, does'nt he owe it to the voters to speak out about corruption and as well as to speak out on the propagation of adult bussinesses throu out proviso???Why is he silent??
    10.How powerful is Sloan's political army?Did'nt he and Welch double cross there township ticket on election day causing the top of the ticket to lose??

  • 1. I do not know Don Sloan's home address.
    2. I do not know the relationship of Don and Tommy Sloan.
    3. Don Sloan did appear on WJJG with Chris Welch on a Sunday afternoon program.
    4. Sloan is a township trustee. I do not know if he overlapped with Taddeo.
    5. I have heard the township does have two separate law firms and Sloan played a role in this.
    6. If you have evidence Sloan has been doing politics while "on the clock" let me know.
    7. It is the same Don Sloan you refer to in your question.
    8. I don't know.
    9. Ask Sloan.
    10. I don't know Sloan's political power. I don't know if he did double cross anyone.

  • Carl, you are right about Broadview's Zoning laws not providing protection. The Zoning Board is strictly advisory - the Village Board can still vote to approve the application even though the Zoning Board denied it.

    By the way, speaking of "effective zoning," last year the Broadview Village Board eliminated a step from the process for a Special Use (including Adult Use) application. The Development Review Committee used to have to meet and review all Special Use applications and forward their comments to the Zoning Board prior to the public hearing. I don't know why they decided to eliminate that step, but the result is the people on the Development Review Committee, including the Mayor and Department Heads, all have cover to say they didn't know anything about it.

  • After reading the comments I believe I must respond to defend the current goverment of Westchester.I have know Angelo Luciano,as well as Don Sloan for a long time AND feel that both men have represented Westchester well.Both of these men have worked tiredlessly to improve Westchester and have spent many hours without pay in doing just that.I spoke with Angelo Luciano and Don Sloan recently when I saw them at Mayor Gatusso's restuarant.They were sitting in the back ,along with Tom Robbins and Brian Sloan, I told them how I admired there perserverance despite all the criticism they have recieved.They told me not to worry,that they were use to it and they stated that they felt they would be victorious in April.They were very confident and stated that the opposition were similar to the Taliban and that there mission was to defeat them,just as President Bush was doing!Angelo compared himself to Vice-Prsident Dick Cheney and stated "Imagine how he must feeling knowing what's happening and having to keep quite about the true intentions of these Taliban"!Angelo went on to compare his team with Gatusso as being President "George W. Bush",himself as Vice-President "Cheney",with Don Sloan as his secretary of Defense "Don Rumsfield" and Tom Robbins as his trusted aide "Scooter Libby" and Brian Sloan as house of Rep. "Duke" Cunningham".He scoffed at the idea of televising council meetings,stated there was nothing Westchester could do about stopping adult bookstores from moving into Broadview, and stated economic development would have to be tempered by himself because "I know the numbers"!
    I felt good speaking with Angelo, because I realized he was right!!!He stated this election was a referedum on Angelo Luciano,Don Sloan and Tom Robbins and if Westchester residents want to go back to the dark ages then they should vote for those Taliban(Casey,Fox and Doyle).He also stated that Westchester's future economic forecast was better than ever before since he and Gatusso took over .Angelo and Don Sloan used the adage "what would these taliban do if they had to govern"?"What will these rabied dogs do if they actually catch the car"? "They have no clue on governing"!
    I agree with Luciano and Sloan and Robbins,under there leadership and style of governing Westchester is better off.Were better off economically,our schools are better,our public high school built a Magnet High School,our infrastructure is better,our proerty values are higher,more families are clamouring to move in to town than to move out,bussinesses are knocking on our doors trying to get in on this "Westchester gold rush", there motto is "trust us" we know what is good for Westchester!I know I trust Luciano and Sloan and Robbins,now should'nt you?

    What a spin your giving for Chris Welch and Don Sloan and Angelo Luciano,stating "It does not matter who anyone's legal team is", your trying to spin the true story that Chris Welch,who is the 209 board president and 209 attorneys Odleson and Sterk,who also represent Broadview,tried to push a strip joint into Broadview and Westchester! Your friend Don Sloan,who is close friends with Chris Welch and is close friends with and campaign manger for Angelo Luciano and Paul Gattusso,was well aware of this and had been trying to get it pushed into Wstchester along with Angelo Luciano.So Johnny Mortage,why are you not outraged with Don Sloan,Angelo Luciano,Chris Welch and Odleson and Sterk?   • To Westchester residents, in all good concoiusness I can't vote for Rick Fox because the more I see how he acts the more I realize how petty and ridiculous he acts and seems!Mr. Fox started a blog about Westchester and once the pressure of the blog heated up when discussing controversial issues he pulled it off.He showed he could'nt take the pressure and that to me showed a critical character flaw!Then he re-started his blog with comment moderation, then once again pulled it off in October 2006 and did'nt blog again and did'nt even give an explanation to why? Serious Character flaw seems to occur with Fox. Now supposedly he re-statrted his blog once again but now he maked it into a restrictive club, where only through a maze of passwords one can get into it.So my concerns seem validated, this man has seroius character flaws and shows the psychology of an ego maniac, whoacts as if he is above the voters and residents and feels that voters are not worthy and that only his select few friends can read his writings.He acts like a child with a ball who when the others don't pass the ball to him he takes his ball abd goes home!I don't support Angelo Luciano and Don Sloan, but Rick Fox's actions with his blog,eventhough they are minor to some, shows me that he does'nt have the character and has serious character flaws to lead.
    Rick Fox, try to prove me wrong?

    Also, not all blogs serve the same purpose.

    While it's legitimate to judge public figures by how they run their blogs, I'd like to see more elected officials and public figures make themselves accessible through blogging.

Is this also what you want to do with the "St Joe's" property? I know you are involved in that as well with Sloan and a few others. You need to re-evaluate your friends - you are starting to sound more and more like a "Progressive Party " person.

  • In reference to FOX has chcaracter flaws: He sure does. The only person that cant see it is him. He is a pompous, arrogant, ego-manic that constantly has to nit pick at issues but provide no substantial solutions or ideas himself. He always cries "nobody told me" (see all of his old blogs) but he has NEVER tried to seek out the village issues or resolutions by himself. As far as his blog,...it was just him and a few of his buddies stirring each other up in a big jerk-off session. None of them would use their real names and speak up in public...perfect setting for a bunch a losers.

    Now he takes it private so he can say what he wants to the people he wants to say it to - these are the only people that must believe his crap. They are just as much a weasel as he is. I hope we are done with him this election. Maybe then he can take his ball and go home.

  • Attention Westchester residents and all good willed people of Westchester, it appears that Angelo Luciano and Brian Sloan(Don Sloan's nephew) have reverted and copied Melrose Park and are trying to convert our local election into a melrose park style thuggery!
    Our Great ex Mayor John Sinde warned us all in Westchester about Melrose Park trying to influence our local town,he warned us to be careful with those individuals who praised and wanted to bring melrose Park influence into our great,proud and honest village!Now since Angelo"Melrose Park's guy in Westchester" Luciano and Don"Melrose Park's guy in Westchester" Sloan have been able to gain undue influence in our village since he has been giving tutelage to our new mayor,they have been systematically harrassing and threatening those who oppose them and who they feel are a threat to them! From crank phone calls,rumor mongering to physically intimidating opposition canididates and their families,Mr. Luciano and Mr. Sloan have decided that there best and only way to win is by threats and intimidation!I believe the physical threats and harrassment and other vile acts being performed by allies of Angelo Luciano and Don Sloan have no bussiness in Westchester.Our Village was never like this and past elections have always been clean elections with open oppostion and debate and respect for others,but the actions of Angelo Luciano's and Don Sloan's friends have crossed the line!!!The most recent act of "political terrorism" was conducted on the filthy,vile blog Proviso Insider which is run by 209 board President Chris Welch,Brian Cross and Don Sloan.On there blog they discussed Don Sloan's nephew Brian Sloan and his run for trustee.Comments made by Luciano and Sloan supporters ridiculed the oppsition and one of his political thugs,Mike Vitek from Westchester even went on to issue a threat towards the opposition ticket!

    "I bet the "lack of Progress" Party

    Now this behavior should not be tolerated!Mr. Fox and the Progress party members should demand from the State Attorney an investigation into these threats and should demand,and we all,Westchester residents should expect and demand that our mayor publically reprimand these individuals for the cowardly behavior and vile acts of political terror!Angelo Luciano as a trustee should also publically condem these acts, and Don Sloan who is an elected township trustee should also publically condem these acts, which are being performed by his and Brian Sloan and Angelo's campaign staff!!
    This behavior should be condoned and show us how desperate Mr. Angelo Luciano's and Brian Sloan's campaign has become.Mr. Don Sloan who happens to be a village employee should be repriminanded and suspended for 14 days and a letter from the village should be placed in his personal file!Luciano and Sloan have let loose there army of paid thugs,Vitek,Robbins,Donny Luciano, Klasinsky and Matezzi and a host of Melrose Park and Maywood thugs to intimidate voters and there oppostion.I understand that Mr. Angelo Luciano and Don Sloan have a lot to lose if they lose the election(real estate deals on Wolf Rd. prarie site,real estate deal at the St. Joseph site,adult bookstores,overtime pay,no accountability at the water commission, and missing money at the commission will never get audited,Don Sloan being promoted to supervisor at the commission with a salary of $110,000,electrical contracts for the luciano's,village jobs for vitek,robbins,klasinsky and matezzi,etc.) but this behavior has no place in Westchester!   • I think it is truely amazing that Manzo, Fox, Klutzinski would stoop so low as to post their own negative press on other sites just to blame great people like Gattuso, Luciano and Sloan.

    This is an atrocity and I call upon the good and intelligent people of Westchester to see through this ugliness and remember these guys will stop at nothing!

    Manzo, Fox, Klutzinski and who ever else may be doing this APRIL IS ON THE WAY... THE VOTERS WILL SEE THROUGH YOUR LIES AND DECEITFUL TACTICS!!!

  • In all honesty.....I dont believe that any of these posts are from Gattuso, Casey, Luciano, Fox, Buikema, Boyle at all. I think they are from a small group of individuals intent on stirring up crap and seeing what happens.

    Maybe they have a lot of time on their hands...all I can say is get a job, get life, volunteer somewhere...do something productibe with your time.

    All you are doing is pitting people against each other for no reason except self-gratification....

    If the parties mentioned above would sit down and air out there differences, and agree to stay away from this bashing and family accusations, maybe you would all see who is doing this....

  • Carl, I didnt know how to send this to you except to reply to a different post. I am sure it should be its own topic.

    I will post as Westchester Senior...

    I am very upset at the way the supposed, Progressive Party is politically spinning everything in our town. The seem to be on an agenda to constantly ridicule the mayor and Mr Luciano in every way, shape or form. It is very tiring....and mostly untrue. I am not saying that I agree with everything that our Village board does, what I am saying is that they are not doing anything different than what they are complaining about.

    The Broadview Adult Club story...they made a complete political issue with out casting blame where blame should be....on the Village Manager. It is HIS responsibility to communicate information he learns to all of the board members. I think this is why we have a Village MANAGER form of goverment...instead they blame Mayor Gattuso. It's not his job to call everyone and alert the parties involved, it is the managers. (correct me if I am wrong). Needless to say this is NOT how it is all portrayed on the Progressive Party Website of Lies.
    Why didnt they call Mr gattuso when they heard about it to join forces and get the word out? I bet because they only wanted to try to make him look bad. They dont want to work together. The are loners trying to manipulate a system for there own needs and political gain.

    Mr "Open and Honest" Richard Fox wants everything out front and open, however he made his "blog for public forum and dscussion" private to his select few. I guess he really doesnt want to hear from people who's opinion differ from his. If this would have been anyone else, he would have wanted a GRAND JURY HEARING into it.

    Also, the release of the attorney. They post all of the information that would make it look negative on the situation but fail to say that Mr Edmonds was a Village Trustee with Mr SInde and made a deal to become the village attorney if he would resign from the board. Why dont they talk about that? Why dont they say that Mr Edmonds is a supporter of the Progresive Party...that is why they are concerned. Why dont they say that he billed the village excessively and has provided MIS-INFORMATION on the Prairie issues as well as other things over the past years. Mr Bikelman and Mr fox have both commented on these things over the last few years at meetings but are now unaware of why he was released. Are we seeing a pattern of lies and deception on Mr Fox and Mr Casey's part?

    What did Mr Casey ever do anyways except go along with everything that Mayor Sinde wanted? Now he wants back? He used to even roll his eyes at Mr Fox's comments...I witnessed that in the audience myself...but now he will run with him.

    My husband and I see a bunch of hypocracy with Mr's Fox and Mr Casey (and Mr Buikema). We dont know anything about Mr Boyle...he seems like a nice lad...but who knows.

    I just can't see how grown men who say they want to move the Village forward continuously stop they flow of information and movement for their own enrichment. they like to hear themselves talk and rant and really make themselves out to be people they are not.

    I just hope more people see this before they go vote in APril...I know I am trying to tell as many people as I know.

    I hope you can post this and we can see if any others feel the same way.
