PO-PO, Forest Park officer deactivated vehicle camera prior to making arrest [FP]

Proviso Probe resported on the initial arrest of Clarence Davis for a traffic matter. The Village of Forest Park is now acknowledging that the arresting officer did not videotape the encounter. See Forest Park Review (Josh Adams).

The system in the police car would have automatically recorded the incident unless it malfunctioned or was manually disabled by the arresting officer.

My source claims that even though it has been mandated policy to use the cameras since March, 2003, the officers have collectively disobeyed village policy on this matter and have all been disabling the cameras. The supervisors were aware of this insubordinate behavior and allowed it to continue.

  • Well, well, well. It would appear as though the criminal Chief Jim Ryan and his puppet master Tony Calderone have gotten caught in another of their lies. Sadly, yet another African American has paid the price for their apathy and incompetence. When will this racist regime come to it's well deserved end? If this wasn't so sad it would be great Thursday night T.V. Cops anyone? Oh that's right, can't be. They actually turn their cameras on.

  • Unless you can name your source for such a serious allegation, it remains untrue, and unethical and irresponsible to report it.

  • watching, you'd just love to know who is giving info on the police department so Chief Ryan could retaliate against him or her, right?

  • that's if your "source" isn't completely made up, or, say, another candidate for office...this is just a cheap political stunt sounds like

  • How can another candidate for office make Ryan and Calderone lie and try to cover this up? How can another candidate for office make Ryan and Calderone retaliate against some employees by firing them for minor, never enforced offenses while they let they're guys beat up minorities and do whatever they want? Perhaps the truth is finally coming out and thankfully it's before the election. Stop making excuses for these racists.

  • Know you were there when the arrest took place, Nyberg. Unless you actually saw the officer deactivate the camera, that's only a supposition on your part and the PD is not talking.

  • The technology automatically turns on when the sirens are activated, right?

No one from the FPPD has claimed that the equipment was defective, right?

  • WRONG

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 12:52 AM, January 25, 2007

  • What are the facts as you understand them?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 8:53 AM, January 25, 2007

  • You stood there and watched but wouldn't give a statement to the police, when asked at the scene. Not very commissionerlike behavior, was it?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 1:38 PM, January 25, 2007

  • Give me the name of the officer who claims he asked me for a statement at the scene.

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 1:41 PM, January 25, 2007

  • BTW, truthy, I noticed you ducked my question.

What do you understand the facts to be?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 1:43 PM, January 25, 2007

  • You've had a lot to say about this incident, but you've been quite coy in your lack of actually describing what went down when this traffic stop turned into an altercation. Why???? Seems to me a loudmouth like you would want to scream at the top of a mountain if you truly witnessed police brutality. Instead, you just let out a minimal amount of conjecture, yet you do not give an actual description of events, and you do not return calls to the police who are trying to conduct an investigation into the matter. You're so full of shit, Carl! Typical political manuevering, just throw it out there and see what sticks. You think the citizens of Forest Park are as stupid as you?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:02 PM, January 25, 2007

  • What are your understanding of the facts in this case?

Do you have a specific question you want answered?

Or are you just hurling allegations?

BTW, what's your stake in this?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 7:46 AM, January 26, 2007

  • I don't know what actually happened, Carl, wasn't there but you stood by and watched it unfold. So instead of of asking what I believe to be true, why don't you just inform us and the PD of what you witnessed? It's pretty shitty not to give the police a statement, what game are you playing?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:24 AM, January 26, 2007

  • So is it shitty that the local chapter of the FOP drafted a letter calling me a liar before the FPPD even took my statement?

If the FPPD had unanimously decided I was lying before I gave a statement, why should I bother giving a statement?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 11:54 AM, January 26, 2007

  • Are you stipulating the Biehl manually defeated the camera that would have recorded the arrest?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 11:55 AM, January 26, 2007

  • Are they still requesting a statement from you? Don't know the procedure, is there a cop you trust to take a fair and accurate statement? Aftanas has a reputation for being fair and square. Is it possible to give your statement at the station, bring a witness, sign and get a copy?

"So is it shitty that the local chapter of the FOP drafted a letter calling me a liar before the FPPD even took my statement?"

If true, why do you think they need to protect themselves from you?

  • Could it be that the Forest Park Police Dept knew from the beginning it was lying about the Clarence Davis arrest?

And how does the Forest Park PD justify releasing someone without socks or shoes in November?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 12:40 PM, January 26, 2007

  • We had a warm Nov. Think his shoes and socks were considered a biohazard. Was he released to the streets, public transportation or to someone's nice warm car? I really don't know.
