CRIME, President Bush claims power to open your mail without a warrant
President George W. Bush has once again given himself the power to do that which is illegal under the law. San Francisco Chronicle:
Bush is a criminal.
Rather than moderate his actions in response to the Democrats winning the November election Bush continues to grab power and use it in a way that benefits him. He's playing a game of chicken with the Democratic Party.
This will end in impeachment and a Senate trial. The Democrats are reluctant to go this route, but Bush will steamroll them and ignore the will of the people until he's held accountable.
Remember, Rep. Karen Yarbrough had the courage and vision to call for impeachment back when the idea was radical. She was the first state legislator to introduce a resolution calling for impeachment.
IN YET another power grab that whittles away our rights without a plausible justification, President Bush has given the government expanded authority to read our mail....
[P]erhaps it should surprise no one that Bush would add a "signing statement" to a postal-reform bill passed by Congress that suggests the new law allows the opening of mail that would be "otherwise sealed against inspection" for broadly defined security purposes.

These reckless claims hurt your credibility. Even the article you linked to does not claim that the signing statement is illegal. But who needs facts when spreading rumors is so much better?

The Federal Gov can look at my mail anytime.

ms. Coffee says: I can't believe it! What happened to "freedom" in the U.S.? We are no longer free to smoke anywhere, eat fois gras, (soon) eat trans fats, take anything in a bottle over an ounce on an airplane, etc. etc. I'm sick of it. For a "free" country, I'll bet we have fewer freedoms than our European counterparts.

This is all a touchy subject: Ask yourself; you’re the Commander in Chief of the greatest nation in the world. You country has been put under attack by terrorist. These attackers are using your freedoms and your constitution as a tool against your people. They view our inability to racial profile, right to privacy and tolerance as a weakness. As any general will tell you exploit your enemy’s weaknesses. There is not a country to speak of to negotiate with, no treaties that can be reached. How would you combat this enemy? Give up our total way of life to appease a radical religious group? That seems to be the only thing that would stop them. You can make claims against oil, or being in there land. The world has become smaller with global travel and industry. This is the new reality, a reality they will never acknowledge.
This is what I ask myself when I think about what our government is dealing with. I do not like our loss of freedoms and the potential for abuse. That being said I have yet to come up with a better solution. Please if you have better ideas let the government know.
We could bury our head in the sand and wait for another attack, wake up for a few months and bury our head in the sand again.

What are we trying to achieve for our country?
What makes our nation great?
What is the conflict with al Qaeda over? Who is the adversary? What are the adversary's goals?

Comment moderation is a pain in the ass. It is hard to debate with another blogger when you have to wait for your comment to be approved and posted. Do not let a couple of nasty bloggers ruin it for the rest of us. Stop the laziness! What's the point in blogging if you can not communiciate with people in a timely manner. You take the life out of real blogging.

Carl if you have to ask what makes our country great perhaps you should try living abroad. Why are people flocking here if this isn’t the land of opportunity? Yes one of the reasons our country is great is our freedoms. We have freedom to worship as we please, criticize our president and government and that’s only the surface. Is our country perfect? Not by a long shot but we have the best legal system in the world, the freest democracy etc. Do we really need to list them all? Do we need to question the goal of protecting our people and our interests? Perhaps we do need to question the way the government goes about it but again how else to we accomplish these tasks?
In the UK they found the suspected bombers that were planning on mixing liquids on the planes on a tip. They did sneak and peaks without warrants. That was one of the tools they used to catch them. That’s fact not fiction, it works. Like I stated in my previous post I don’t like it but what choice or other tools do we have at our disposal?
Who is our adversary? I do not want to pin labels on anybody but it appears radical Islam, those that corrupt the written word of the Koran to push their agenda. It goes back centuries. The Shiite and Sunni would just as sure do away with each other than stand in the same room. Both are Muslims with different believes of the writings in the same book. I believe al Qaeda are Sunni Muslims who interpret the Koran in different light than the Shiite Muslims. The Koran mentions both Moses and Jesus as profits of Muhammad. The links between Christianity and Judaism, and Islam are all intertwined in Jerusalem. To any god fearing person this would make one wonder who is correct and who is incorrect and possibly question ones faith. In the case of the Sunni’s they believe with their entire being they are correct and they are willing to fight and die for this belief.
An enemy that is tough to beat in any battle. One that believes that they are the chosen one and they need to fight and die for their god will never surrender. I believe as many do our adversary’s goals are to destroy the infidels. Infidels are anybody that doesn’t believe as they do. Most of the rest of religious people would be happy going through life having their beliefs and wait until they are done with their life on earth and find out. Having faith that if god is all forgiving we would be forgiven. That’s contradicts the beliefs of the Sunni’s. So I would have to say their goals are to either convert every living being to believe as they do or wipe them of the face of the earth.
It is complicated and I only know enough about it to have an opinion, and now you know it.

You don't get it. Integrity means being civil and honest all of the time. You've made it clear there is no point in discussing issues with you.
