MEDIA, Yarbrough alleges newspaper published manufactured quote [M]
West Suburban Journal published a letter to the editor by Proviso Insider. The letter alleges Rep. Karen Yarbrough received a "lukewarm" reception at Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood.
I've been told by Yarbrough and one other source that Proviso Insider is mistaken or lying. I spoke to Nicole Trottie, the publisher, and she stands by the story.
While I've had at least cordial relations with Trottie, I'm more inclined to believe Yarbrough and people I know than Proviso Insider and unnamed sources.
At this point Proviso Insider has a track record of lying. Earlier Proviso Insider, aka Proviso Bullshitter, claimed I was about to be receive a subpoena as part of an investigation of Charles Flowers and Theresa Kelly by the Cook County State's Attorney.
If the claims by Proviso Insider are just plain untrue--no gray areas about sorta kinda being close to what was said--should Yarbrough sue West Suburban Journal and Proviso Insider for defamation?
When Rep. Yarbrough stepped to the podium, she shouted, "I am not the enemy." Insider sources say one person shouted, "No. You're a Greek bearing gifts."

This one is a easy one. Just get the tape from the Rock. They tape everything. Besides, there were probably several hundred people who were there. Put out a clarion call to your readership and get the real deal.
I agree with the posting above- who really cares?

What I can't believe is why in the hell is Proviso 209, district 88 and 89 open today on this huge strom day? Who the hell is in charge? What good does it do to keep the schools open todat? The students normally don't go to school, but yet we keep the school open, risking our students lives, our teachers and other lives to go to school to do nothing on this aweful day!
Heads need to rolled, and a new sane administration should be brought in. Who is looking out for the teachers and students? Nobody at 209, or 88 or 89!
Also today the majority of custodians are out, since the majority of these proviso custodians make six figure salaries and live in Dupage, they called in because the roads by there houses is treacherous!

I was recently informed about this blog and the Proviso Insider --- by students of PWHS. I must say that I am ashamed of the ADULTS who post daily vulgar and profane messages. I shudder to think if some of these repeat bloggers are women & mothers. The children of Dist. 209 are laughing at you all! They have discussed the immaturity and hatred that spews out of the mouths of alleged 'educators'.
Everyone has a right to their opinion...but my goodness! Will you all please re-direct your anger & frustration into a positive outlet. I would hate to assume that some of the bloggers are unfilled, depressed women/men that suffer from low-self esteem. If so, get over it! Our community is not helped by your hatred of one faction over the other.
If Chris Welch is as horrible as stated in these blogs...please propose an action plan after his removal that will begin to address the ills of our community. If Mrs. Kelley & Co., are evil, please present viable candidates for the next election...that are educated and truly have a vested interest in our children & community.
I ask that the bloggers who spew negativity and hate please step back and review your words. Again, the children are reading and losing hope in the leaders.
As we enter into the New Year, contemplate on how you can make a positive impact within our community.
Are you willing to lay aside your personality differences and come to the table with those currently in leadership to design a workplan that shifts Dist. 209, 88 & 89?
Are you willing to accept the past and move on? Are you willing to stop using the children as an excuse and remember to put them first in all plans & decisions?
Are you willing to replace the hate with love and move on with your lives? I promise, when you resist the devil, he will flee.
I am praying for all the bloggers and our community...but I am also working to ensure that the Staff in Dist. 88 & 209, specifically, will be held accountable for their decisions regarding our children.
Please know that there will be some new kids on the block...we are educated, accomplished and not tied or linked to any families, personalities or political figures in Maywood or Bellwood. We are all alumni of PWHS & PEHS. We are strategizing and conducting our own investigations into the many allegations posted on both blogs and personal interviews.
Look for us at the Board Meetings...we will be the spectators observing & taking notes. We have come back home from Naperville, Aurora, Downers Grove, Lisle, Schaumburg and Plainfield. In a nutshell...we are tired of the bashing and know that it is time do something.
In closing, thanks to the Probe & Insider for allowing us to peep in and uncover the mess ourselves...

What has your investigation uncovered thus far regarding these allegations and what investigative process are you using?
I'm asking because, to conjure up a phrase such as, "Mrs. Kelley & Co.", will lead one to believe that there is already a predetermined bias on your part.
The participants of this blog along with the students that you mentioned, have to be able to trust your findings. Please explain how you will ensure our trust as well as conducting an unbias and objective investigation?

I think Theresa Kelly, Charles Flowers, The Yarbroughs, Carl Nyberg, Nichelle Rivers, and Greg Jackson should all sue The Proviso Insider.
This would make the identity public of the Proviso Insider and thus we will all know for a fact who this guy is...

To Alumni...please advise...
Hello Blogger! We are still in the midst of compiling our findings. Our investigative process is privy to those involved. At the onset, we were naive and did not realize how "political" the administrators & some educators conducted themselves nor did we fully comprehend the slanderous activity of all parties involved.
The phrase, Mrs. Kelley & Co., is just that – a phrase. We are unbiased as it relates to the awful bashing contained in this blog, as well as, the Insider. No conjure, solely an assessment of the comments.
You earn trust. Trust will be earned by our efforts...to affect change in our community by proposing and debating policy. As a matter of fact, we have enlisted recent grads and current students to assist us.
Rest assured, we have not and will not conduct ourselves in a unworthy manner...our futures are at stake.
Thanks for responding!

Wackowelch, a.k.a Larry Shapiro, you seem to have a lot of opinions about Trottie, you fail to back them up with and anything of substance aside from a connection to Chris Welch. All talk!
I expect nothing less from Larry Shapiro and the Proviso Probe, sponsored by Karen Yarbrough and the tax payers of Proviso.
Trottie's a class act. Yarbrough's comic relief.
By Anonymous, at 4:57 PM, December 03, 2006
The burden of proof is on Yarbrough. It's hard to fight the truth when it's on tape. Gotcha!
If she hasn't already, why doesn't Yarbrough bring the tape of the service to the paper and ask for a retraction? Oops, I know why, the tape tells the truth.
In a court of law I'm sure Chris Welch would pay Trottie to testify he made the remark "Greek Bearing Gifts".
Get over yourself and get on with your job. Crime in Maywood is at a higher rate than it was under Ralph Conner's administration. Karen and Henderson, what are you thinking?

Thank you for your quick response, but I must say, your posting makes me highly skeptical of your investigation.
I find it laughable that you have an ongoing investigation yet, you spelled the name of one of the subjects incorrectly. "Mrs. Kelley's" name is actually spelled "Mrs. Kelly". I find that highly irresponsible for someone who expects to gain the trust of the public. If nothing else, we expect objectivity and accuracy and so far you are void of both per your comments and phrase.
Please enlighten us with more...

To Alumni...Not a good start
The initial posting was based upon information compiled by the team and written by our Corresponding Secretary. We publicly retract the misspelling of Mrs. Kelly's name and the phrase Mrs. Kelly & Co. Our only bias is the quality of education in Dist. 209.
We are taken aback that a misspelling of a person name would equate irresponsibility.
Nevertheless, thank you for the information.

Ms. Trottie is NOT a member of our team.

You claim that students from PWHS tipped you off to this blog. Oh really? I thought teenagers would be more interested in My Space and the such.
And for the record Trottie is the only team player on your team, besides Welch. Everyone knows Welch's game plan! They have all failed. He has disguised himself in a so many different ways on the Probe and the Insider. Trottie has her evil hand in this so how.

Exactly...more than 85% of teenagers we know are more interested in MySpace, but they find comments contained in the Probe & Insider regarding Proviso Township hilarious. These are very intelligent children and their parents are involved in their education and school district. They alerted their parents of the blogs and this information was shared with their parents' friends.
It was really that simple...
We know that some people will believe that we 'belong' to one faction or the other, but we have NO affiliation with Mr. Welch, Mrs. Kelly, Ms. Trottie, Mr. & Mrs. Yarbrough, Mr. Stan Fields or anyone else that is mentioned as a key player in Proviso Township.
Please note: this is our last entry for this blog in 2006. Happy Holidays!!

Awwwww...you mean you are not going to enlighten and educate our poor, misguided souls on this blog until next year...but, but, how will we survive without you? Please, you are our savior...do not forsaken us in our time of need!
Ok, for the record, I find your comments to be disingenuous at best. Yes, I have my own business and yes, I have employees, but I would never, never place blame publicly on my "secretary" as you have in your 12/5 posting at 9:27 pm. That's a piss poor excuse and a cop out. If you and your constituents are conducting an investigation and "you" post it on the blog, then you must own up to the errors since "you" are the party posting the comments...not your "corresponding secretary".
Also, you commented, "We are taken aback that a misspelling of a person name would equate irresponsibility".
You should not be "taken aback" by me pointing out the glaring mistake that was visible in your initial posting. In your initial posting, you mentioned that the students are watching. Well, if they're watching, wouldn't it make sense for you to be as accurate as possible? If you are on here as an example to students, then instill in them the importance of being accurate and precise; especially if you are conducting an "investigation". And yes, inaccurate information does equate to irresponsibility.
Now, do you really expect us to take heed to your findings based on your numerous faux pas?
Enjoy your holiday...looking forward to next year!

We said we would not be posting until '07. But Steven's post deserves a timely response.
Our years at PEHS and PWHS were filled with wonderful academic experiences and limitless aspirations and hopes for our futures. We certainly sense that the academic environment has dramatically declined and that some students are hopeless about their futures. What has changed over the years since we attended to cause this situation?
For one thing, it's clear that the people responsible for running the schools, and you know what people we're writing about here, have been ill-equipped intellectually and administratively to maintain high academic standards. Intellectually and culturally inferior, these people allowed the academic standards to lower while they enriched themselves at the public trough. And they continue to do so today.
At the risk of sounding elitist, why is it that suburban schools in the Northern and further Westerly suburbs flourish academically as well as in other areas? You only have to look to who is running those schools and to the population of citizens that supports them. It's as clear as black and white.
Choosing Dr. Fields as a superintendent was a giant step in the right direction. Further similar steps need to be taken with others who don't deserve to be in their current positions.
Yes, we'll be at board meetings, taking notes, and investigating. It is our intention to take the Proviso District 209 schools from darkness into light.

To Alumni "Our Secretary Did It"...
Oh by the way, We are still blogging!
We changed our minds.
Thank you for holding us accountable for our content. We have assumed that you are a champion of education and are expending the same, if not more, energy on helping the children and communities of Dist. 209 as you have regarding a misspelling.
As you know, the retraction was sent, as soon as, the error was noted. We know that was a responsible and an appropriate action.
Our Corresponding Secretary alerted the team of the misspelling and posted the retraction. The misspelling was a harmless mistake.

Yea!
Oh my God...we are so grateful that you have decided to return to save us! You're our hero!
Actually, catching your missteps thus far has been rather easy. One might call it child's play. And for the record, your "Corresponding Secretary" didn't recognize the mistake in your posting. It was noticed and pointed out to you by "Alumni...not a good start" at 2:12 pm on 12/04. Yet another bit of misinformation by the "educated" and "intelligent" Alumni that have decided to come back to our district from all parts unknown.
The bottom line is this, if you post something on this blog, expect criticisim and praise. Expect a warm response or a chilly greeting based on your views and how they are presented. That is the beauty of an open marketplace of ideas and views.
As for me...a champion of education...nah...just a champion of successful ventures that allows me to give back to the district without the media scrutiny and the grandstanding accompanied with recognition.
Take care...
