PO-PO, rumor of personnel move in Melrose Park [MP]

A rumor from normally reliable sources says that the Melrose Park PD had a high level person resign last night. When I called the Melrose Park PD at 9:15 AM this morning the rumor was denied.

Police Chief Vito Scavo's private security company is under investigation by the federal government. The security company employ Melrose Park cops. So you can see the slippery slope of accounting for when the cop is doing work for the village and when he is working for Scavo's private company.

80 Comments:

  • Vito Scavo was forced to resign last night or else he was going to be fired!
Sources state that at least 18 police officers will be forced to go to trial, unless Scavo cuts a deal to spare them from having to cut there own deals.Rick Cervone, police officer and district 89 board member, went to his interview/Interogation with the FBI and Feds and came back and immediately resigned as a police officer and has put his house on sale, and is planning to step down at a 89 borad member! I guess he did alot of talking!
Scavo is looking at a long prison sentence, probably in the vecinity of 5 to 10 years with loos of pension. I think he will be forced to squeal to save himself and his family!

  • This is just great. Forest Park police chief Jim Ryan took a meeting with Vito Scavo and allowed several of our police officer to work for him while using Forest park equipment. The Fed's can find Ryan's number in the phone book. Don't pick up the phone Jim!

  • Oh Deep Throat
The forced resigning of Scavo was fouled up by the rapid spread of the news through Melrose Park that he had retired under Serpico’s orders, and he Scavo quickly pulled the agreement back when he wanted to save face. What source would have such sensitive information to come up with a number of at least 18 officers were involved in Scavo’s wrong doing? As for Cervone I have checked all listing in Melrose Park and his home is not for sale. I also have contact School District 89 and they are not aware of Cervone stepping down. Once again you point to infamous information that you know Cervone had been interviewed by federal authorities. Is there a date when this interview took place? Do you even know when Cervone announced his prospective retirement not resignation? You then come up with your own sentencing for Scavo. This is America and Scavo is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law NOT YOU!! Maybe you where the one interviewed? How are you aware of the charges Scavo is facing? Please do tell?
Let’s just wait and see instead of making up bull shit!

  • Why would Scavo be surprised at a rapid spread of his departure? He is despised by everyone except his family. Did he forget about the grief and sorrow he caused for so many of us former and present officers? The only shock here is the length of time it has taken our brain dead mayor to finally get the "balls" to force Scavo's ouster. Why did he even re-appoint him? Yeah, Scavo is finally getting a taste of his own medicine. While he maintains he did nothing wrong he obviously forgot about running a business out of the police station, business owners' complaints of Scavo's security services forced upon them, numerous law suits against the village, police department and Scavo personally because of sexual harrassment, brutality, etc., and most recently his attempt to strike an officer until a assistant chief stepped between Scavo and the officer. Scavo needs to leave and take responsibility for his actions. He's a real example of what to avoid in looking for a police chief.

  • Scavo is a true thief and a real miserable person. Everything he gets he deserves!
The way he double-crossed Taddeo was horrendous, considering that not only were they close friends, and that taddeo made him Police chief, but Taddeo even bailed him out of numerous gambling debts he owed the "wise Guys" and as well protected him from beatings from Drug Dealers he owed money too.
Hey Vito baby, your fucked!Screwed!Your going to do time! You deserved it and it could'nt have happened to a nicer guy!

  • Vito Scavo or as he's known to many as (Vito Scam-o). This ruthless greedy thug has stolen every way possible from the citizens of melrose park. The feds can't move fast enough to take this pig down and dress him up in a nice orange jumpsuit. Hey Scam-o baby open up and say ahh! It's time for you to get on all fours and take it like a man of the year...ahh ha,ha,ha,ahh ha,ha,ha .

  • On Sept.6, 2006 Melrose Park Police Chief Vito Scavo will have a moving truck behind the police station. He is supposed to pack up all his hunting equipment, his trailer and his friends truck from the Melrose Park police departments several indoor garage spaces. Then the arrogant basterd will order some on duty police department employee's to load his decoy ducks and numerous other things he stores in the rooms behind the court room on to the truck. Yeah, all of these things that belonged at his house for past 10 years. Have been taking up village space. Then the sick twisted arrogant basterd will have to be dragged out of the station while he is kicking and screaming like the bitch he is. He will then bring his sorry ass home and begin to spent endless sleepless days and nights. Asking himself will today be the day? But don't worry,it won't be long! Soon he will be taken downtown and fingerprinted again just like he was the last time he was arrested by the FBI. In about a year from now he will be in his prison cell screaming" I'M THE CHIEF OF MELROSE PARK - I'M STILL THE CHIEF OF MELROSE PARK" Yes, Sept.6,2006 will be a good day for the citizens of Melrose Park. Just like Sept.8,2005 was when the fed's raided the Melrose Park Police Station and just like Dec.18,2005 was when The fed's raided the CRIMINAL CHIEF'S house. The Criminal Chief's REIN OF TERROR is finally coming to an end....AMEN..

  • ..and since this was started as a result of the little league money theft....the numbers are understated....like a typical degenerate gambler - always in denial about how much they actually wagered.

So let's shift gears. Whose yougest brother was it that actually stole the money and orchestrated a cover-up? For a hint look to the title of this blog. But why criticize? MAYBE it's so much easier to pick on the already battered and bruised, like a bunch of SCAVOngers! Think back to last year at this time, Scavo was the mayor's yin to his yang. Did you ever think he was put on the hot seat BY THE ONE WHO wanted scavo's position AND took it upon himself to tumble the hierarchy-and who is probably the dirtiest of them all...well not of them all....

  • My name is Donald Edwards and I have been a victim of police brutality! This unjust and vicious crime was inflicted by the Melrose Park Police Department. I had my civil rights violated, was beaten viciously while handcuffed, pepper sprayed, stripped of my clothes, and arrested without warrant. I was detained uncharged for more than 24 hours and left bruised, bloody and medically unattended in a jail cell. When my lawyer arrived shortly after the incident, I was in and out of consciousness in a cell. He demanded for me to be rushed to the hospital. Only then was an ambulance called and I was transported to the Westlake hospital emergency room.

At 6:30 pm on May 23rd 2005, I was visiting my seventy-five year old mother, a prominent Reverend of the A.M.E church, at her senior citizens residence located at 1750 Riverwoods Drive, Melrose Park, IL, 60160. I was driving a 1980 Chevrolet Camaro when I pulled into the parking lot to meet her. I stopped by to say ‘Hello’ for a second, before I had to be on my way. I pulled into visitors parking, left my car running, walked over and greeted her while she exited her car. She wanted me to help walk her to the front door, so I did. When we got to the front door she wanted to sit and talk for a few minutes before she went inside. We sat on benches in front of her building. A few minutes past and three elderly ladies congregated in front of my vehicle while walking their dogs. One of the elderly ladies walked over to us and asked, “Is that your car?” We responded politely and said “Yes, is there something wrong?” She said, “No, but those women are just nosey and they are going to call the police. They don’t know whose car it is. So you’d better go and let them know and turn your car off.”

I left my car idling quietly in the visitor’s spot, with the radio off, because I only meant to meet with my mother outside for a very short period of time. I walked over to the visitors spot, turned off my car, locked the doors and started walking back towards my mother sitting on the bench. The two elderly women said, “Is that your car? Why is it on?” I said, “Sorry if there is a problem, have a goodnight.”

While I was walking back to my mother, an unmarked black SUV pulled up very fast and screeched to a stop close to me. I turned around and two white males and one white female jumped out and said, “Get your nigger ass down on the ground and put your hands behind your head!” I was very shocked and terrified that someone would say that to me. I threw my hands up over my head with open palms and said, “Hey, what is going on?” Then one of the W/M grabbed some pepper spray from his waist and pointed it toward my face and sprayed it while replying, “Get down on the ground nigger.” Natural reaction made me turn and run. I ran about 50 yards until I stumbled. I saw my mother get up and start toward me. I then laid down on the ground with my hands behind my back. When the offenders caught up to me they proceeded to put their knee on my neck and beat me with their closed fists. I heard my mother yell “Stop, Stop! What are you doing?!” I yelled for her to stay back so she would not get hurt, as I lay prone on the ground. The offenders continued to beat me on the ground ferociously. I was not resisting. I could hear my mother screaming saying Stop, Stop Please! The offenders continued to kick and beat me until a crowd started to appear. About the same time a Melrose Park police car arrived on the scene, later identified as officer Negron. As onlookers started to gather they picked me up and put me in officer Negron’s police car.

I saw one of the offenders scream at my mother saying “Get out of here!” He moved towards her as to push her and other onlookers grabbed her and moved her away from them. I could see from the back of the police car that the offenders started to look about on the ground by my car, as if to plant something. I heard someone say “Don’t plant anything we are watching you!” It seemed the offenders started to get nervous so they directed one of the officers, Negron, to transport me back to the station. While I was being transported officer Negron said “If I was there, I would have shot your nigger ass!” He also said “You are going to get yours when we get back to the station,” in a menacing voice. When I arrived at the station, there were two additional officers waiting for me. They chained me to the wall. I was chained and handcuffed until the other offenders got back to the station. These offenders were now identified as Lt. Rogowski, I/O Rodriguez, and I/O Shankle. The offenders unchained me from the wall and while I was still handcuffed slammed me unto a steel table, face first. The 6 offenders then commenced another brutal beating. One of the officers tried to twist my neck as if to break it, while the others grabbed hold of each appendage to pound and maim. The offender Lt. Rogowski yelled out, “You like to run from police officers, huh Nigger?!” The offenders beat me until I passed out on the table. When I revived I was being taken to a cell. While being dragged to a cell I was again slammed face first into a concrete wall by the offender Lt. Rogowski. I was knocked senseless and bloodily beaten by the hands of approximately six officers and I/O’s while at the station, seemingly on camera. There was a camera positioned above the table where the offenders beat and strangled me. The next thing I remember was my lawyer coming into my cell yelling for the officers to get medical attention. I was rushed to Westlake Hospital for treatment of my wounds and to take x-ray’s. At that time clothes were given to me to wear by the medical staff, I was only wearing my shorts. My right knee was immobilized from ligament damage sustained from the beating. At about 3:00 a.m., I was released from the hospital and placed back into a cell.

Twenty-four hours past without being allowed a meal, phone call, being charged with a crime, or being finger printed. With pressure on the department from my lawyer, I was finally processed, charged with battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. I was released on bond approximately 9pm the next day. My car was impounded and I had a rare and expensive sterling silver moonstone pendant stolen from me by the offenders. Later that week my mother had to be admitted to the hospital for heart problems, triggered by the brutality from the Melrose Park Police Department.

These Offenders Lt. Rogowski, I/O Rodriquez, I/O Shankle, officer Negron and the Melrose Park Police Department are responsible for these apprehensible crimes and civil rights violations against me and my family. These offenders have caused me undue hardship, physical and personal pain, medical bills, job loss and most of all my freedom. They treated me less than a human being, tried to strip me of my dignity and basic rights as a citizen. The offending officers named in this complaint need to be investigated and brought to justice.

If you truly worked there then you know that your belief that if the present chief is gone then mppd will "be run the way it should be run" means that either a) you are incredibly naive b) the real outsider (because you really haven't a clue about the forces in MP or c) a complete idiot.
    I pick letter a.

Everybody in mppd has a little dirt on their clothes. You are no exception. The only thing worse than the hypocrites who lined their pockets and later bit the hand that fed them are the ones who secretly complained but didn't have the balls to try and change it, but rather left, then jumped on the bandwagon when they were safely off the ship.

Maybe you belong in the Kotex town you probably patrol, where the worse thing you will encounter is some wanna-be-banger who's parents have a combined income of around $200,000.

mppd is better without gutless pussies like yourself. If you don't work there anymore then why the active interest in what is happening? You left now move on.

  • Crime down 7.7% on the street maybe but in the station it’s up 500% 20 years under Belle two policemen convicted and one of them is back at the station getting a fat check for doing nothing!! Only because he covered for Scabo in the insurance fraud deal. Policemen convicted four, Policemen fired five, lawsuits too many to list and still going .What an embarrassment! He’s the chief too good to wear a uniform but he wears $300.00 pants and $100.00 dollar shirts. He don’t care he buys them with stolen money. The same thief who’s name was in the overtime book every week even while he was on vacation. It would probably be a good idea to get out of town, nobody wants you here. I’m kind of thinking Florida might not be a good choice either.

  • Dear xmpcop
I'm simply pointing out your incredible naivete in regards to police "corruption". And if you feel threatened or take personal the issues I have with you then I can refer you to a good counselor. You need to distinguish between gratuitous insults and the harsh reality of what I write. There is a difference and someone who lacks the cognitive skills or insight to differentiate between the two needs to either go back to college or enroll at Triton. I have reduced the $5 college words in these blogs because I don't feel the need to show off. But any time you want to compare credentials or I.Q.s I guarantee you might find yourself on the short end.

Finally, I'm not an "outsider" nor a "tool" or a "lackey". I am grounded in a realistic perspective of the world and believe that he who is without sin cast the first stone. I know it must be difficult to understand for you, perched upon your pulpit of self perfection, but i'm sure if you look did a little introspection, I'm sure you would find more than one instance of immorality, impropriety, misconduct, unlawfulness, ect. on the job. The big difference between you and I, as far as I can see, is that I don't believe that I can walk on water nor judge others that are unable either. You should know all too well, unless you are a rookie, especially in this job, how the "truth" gets manipulated or distorted.

again I end with an appropriate quote:
"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"
    St. Ignacious

It sounds like this is what the Police station needs two more SGT's and Two more LT's. Because we dont have enough already. Lets just see if the Melrose Park Board next month HAS ANY BALLS and Rejects this request.

it's funny that you never expressed these opinions openly or tried to change anything at mppd while you were here. I guess you will have an excuse for that. Just like the rest of the cowards who benefitted from the hand that fed them, but didn't have the spine to speak up. No doubt there is truth to what you say. I just take issue with you and the rest of the bandwagon jumpers who had nothing to say openly while they were here and now that they smell blood and circle the corpse like a bunch of scavengers. The Feds hire Professors all the time to evaluate Departments when they are under investigation.Once the evaluation is complete he sends a report to the feds and they make all the changes based on the report.IE. shift commanders, hires and spending. also specialized units.Belive me what the officers in Melrose park are used to is about to change.

Feds cannot, by law, come in and take over. That's why it's called consent decree.
But if the board approves... who knows

  • What everyone seems to forget is that indentured servitude ended over three hundred years ago. Nobody forced anybody to work here. At any time if they didn't like it or approve...quit...gimme a break already! They stayed for a reason...

  • To xmpcop

Your use of profanity is reflective of an impoverished vocabulary...It's funny how you criticized my brief use of profanity only to go on a multiple profanity laden blog tirade. A bit hypocritical huh? Which also goes to reveal a larger hypocricy you possess. If you truly did work for mppd then you worked for scavo. But you call me spineless? I'm not the one complaining about the problems. remember, hate the sin, but love the sinner. And you are correct this blog is not about you, of course, it never was, but your ego will not allow you to comprehend what I'm talking about. So you take it personally. You are a hypocrite and a coward for all the reasons that you are whining and revelling about in your pathetic diatribes of personal character assasinations, albeit partially true accusations but assinine, largely misinformed opinions of the present administration.
Let me spend 30 days in any department and I can come up with a shopping list of misconduct, double standards, and unfair treatments by chiefs, bosses, and patrolmen. If you have been a cop for 15 years and don't realize this yet, then you have blinders on, or are in massive self-denial. Furthermore, I bet you are like the dozens of cops out there that talk shit and criticize a fellow officer for abusing someone, but when it's your turn you let it rip!
(Note that I haven't slung around any profanity laced tirades.) It's time you get off you high horse.

As for the Fed ...I really don't admire that particular branch of lawmen who hold office pools of how many cops they can indict in a year. (they really do!) I've worked with many of these "lawmen" within their various 'task forces" and they love writing up detailed operational outlines. But put them on a mean street and their asses pucker and their balls shrink. You must work in some North Shore suburb where you probably get written up if you use the wrong tone with a somebody and don't know what it's like to go to the wall for a fellow officer. Judging from your redundant rantings you probably go out after work and bitch all night about the shift you came off.
Back to the point, Let the Fed convict the accused. Until then the " I know the truth" dribble is getting old from everyone.
    Remember that perception is reality.

A little objectivity might do everyone some good. And for the record I'm not one of Scavo's lackey's.

Not by cutting and running like you seemed to have done...I find it hilarious that you, by your own statement, are not even a member of this dept anymore...so get on with your career and pat yourself on the back regarding the great cop you are and be happy. Why all the intense interest on your part now that the present circumstances relate to you in no way shape or form.

I won't even get into a point by point rebuttal of your half truths and, once again, gross distortion of the truth about the players (ie., "heros" like Zito! what a gross distortion of truth, he was the biggest thief of them all, all the way to protecting his pimp brother's escort service), circumstances, and incidents that existed / exist at mppd.

This will be my last entry because I grow tired of your redundant dribble.
You can have the last word if you must...

  • racer x, you seem to be saying that if someone didn't like the working conditions at Melrose Park they should quit. And then you criticize someone who quit/left/whatever for speaking out against the department.

racer x, is it your position that people who stay shouldn't complain? and is it your position that people who leave shouldn't complain?

Who is allowed to criticize the Melrose Park PD in your opinion?

The word you are missing is CONSTRUCTIVE critiscm...the venemous outpourings that have dominated this blog have nothing to do with changing or trying to change anything. These are simply sharks smelling blood and going in for the last morsel of flesh.

My issue is that people like xmpcop is that he never even attempted to change anything. If it was so bad there and he obviously never spoke up, well that falls on him and at that point he has no right to assasinate anybody's character in the safety of his new job or within
the safety of anonimity. He listed a bunch of things he could have done, albeit sarcastically, and interjected a ton of half truths and outright misinformation.

Ironically, the ones who sparkd the change were the some of the ones who were as corrupt or near-do-wells as the people he insults. If he truly worked there, he knows this as fact.
I'm there, I see it, I know who these people are, and their motives are as righteous or well intentioned as the wolf in little red grandma's bed. I've seen their kind before. They are also morally bankrupt and have blown the whistle not out of civic duty, but out of spite. But that's the reality of the circumstances.
like I said before, Corruption and misconduct disguises itself in various forms in almost every public administration and in particular police departments. Look what happened in Oak Brook with two officers off duty at a restaurant. Or Bensenville a few years back with Off duty work. The list goes on and on.
xmpcop is just another coward becoming brave when the bully has already been layed out. And because of that I have no respect for him or his kind.
Believe me, this is an embarrassing chapter for all mp cops, but what these bandwagon jumpers forget, and people like you Carl always like to remind us when cops are abusive is that everyone out there is a human being. So they shoud try applying a little of your / their own rhetoric to these events.
EVERYONE benefitted at mp in some way from the corruption that has surfaced, especially the whistleblowers. That's the problem with the FEd, They are willing to give a pass to a guy who admitted to killing 19 people (s. Gravano), just to get his boss...who is really worse. Where is the justice in that. Guys like Zito and others should also be in a cell.

thank you I'm glad somebody was able to actually read and understand what I was saying...I appreciate your ability to understand and articulate that understanding of what I've been saying to xmpcop.

being glad or satisfied is one thing...and even talking a little shit is acceptable...But the outright lies, false accusations, unverifiable distortions of fact and pure fiction and misinformation that spewed from you simply because of your emotional state is at the very least dissapointing and at worse as bad as the people' character you assasinated and condemned.

I too grew up here and kept myself out of the politics and corruption. But i would never sink as low as you with regards to the hurtful and venomous insults you so furiously slung around about people who had no hand in any of this (relatives, friends, family). In fact I think it's childish that you still refer to him as scamo...

It devalues the few valid points and truths you point out.

It's easier to condemn and tear down than to praise and build. I highly doubt that when this is all over we will see you in this town trying to build something from the ashes.

    More lies and misinformation and irresponsible accusations;

    1 I am a cop at mp
2 check your entries that haven't been deleted you badmouth more than scavo
    3) the most intimate my relationship got with the chief was saying hello in passing and a respecful how you doing?
4 and yes I am able to dissasociate myself. It allows me to do my job without interference...save the usual hassles of the job..

So more assinine irresonsible assumptions on your part. Any reader with half a brain hopefully can see that you simply are a hate filled, do nothing, used to work here, rumor
monger. Who must get off on talking out his ass behind the safety net of anonimity.

To be honest, if I didn't work here I would have no problem posting my name...how bout you...ex mp cop? that doesn't make me a coward it makes me a pragmatist, but you can reveal yourself because you don't work here...so why not? coward.

Don't confuse your spinelessness and anonomous bravery with my accepting reality and existing within a system and culture whos sum of all parts is larger than all of us. You would think that after "five generations" of residency here you would know that things were more "corrupt" here in the 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s. The only difference is the world around mp has changed and mp will too change. But it doesn't need dumbasses like yourself to perpetuate falsehoods and spread misinformation because you have a personal ax to grind with scavo. Get over yourself your not that important!
