First District 89 (Maywood and Melrose Park elementary schools) didn't need to replace the assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Then the board instructed Superintendent Cynthia Broughton to present six candidates, one of whom is the daughter of a Maywood trustee and political ally of the board.
Shockingly the daughter of the Maywood pol was hired. But the board didn't stop there. It hired another candidate, just because. See Maywood Herald (Chris LaFortune):

Perkins [the daughter of Maywood Trustee Edwenna Y. Perkins] will work at a salary of $115,000 for next year, while Ballard will work at a salary of $85,000, Broughton said Thursday. The board approved the hirings at a special board meeting last Wednesday.
"What happened was, both candidates were very impressive in our interviews," School Board President Grady Rivers said. "We felt like there was a role for both."

The question I have is, how can Gary Woll be running for trustee after 25 years of leaving Maywood worse off ever since he has been there, and now his fellow trustee Perkins hiring her daughter at 89? Is Gary with her still or is he against her now?
Also to Proviso Guru, who sttaes to be a loyal democrat, and thus by his reasoning would vote for Hitler or Stalin if they also were Democrats, why don't you get offended when Blacks steal from Blacks, like Perkins,Rivers Welch,Kelly,Flowers and others do it?

Shirley Madlock's youngest sister, Tamara Robinson was just hired by District 209 as the payroll coordinator & business office supervisor! She will be replacing Carolyn Jones who recently resigned. (Carl, remember...you asked me to email you her name in an earlier posting).
Kudos and accolades!
Please give Shirley Madlock a hand…this is her reward for voting with the majority. Is that why she held out against Libka? Rumor has it that madlock was upset that she hasn’t received a proper piece of the cash/job windfall that Chris Welch and the rest of the majority board has enjoyed. I guess that was her way of playing hard-ball.
Well…looks like it worked!
So, yep, you guessed it...another District 209 majority board family member has just obtained employment! So, let's take inventory, you have Sue Henry's daughter, Shirley Madlock's sister, Chris Welch's approximately 13 relatives including his brother, all working for the District they preside over.
This is "What's the matter with negroes" for you "stunned democrat".
Actions speak volumes!
In order for District 209 to improve and prosper, Chris Welch, Shirley Madlock, Sue Henry and Danny Adams need to resign immediately...before any more damage is done.

Just the facts man don't know what she is talking about. Kelly's next door neighbor Ron Crain works at P.W. as a janitor. He is the husband of a lady Kelly worked with at Comed. Kelly's tenant Eric Macon works at P.W. Kelly's cousin Pam Jolly works at P.W. Kelly's aunt Dorothy Ray works at P.W. Kelly's god daughter, Amy Relfs, works at P.W. Kelly's son Dwon Kelly, works at P.W. during the basketball season. He also DJd homecoming at P.E. two years ago for $14,000. Kelly's cousin Ed Howard works at PE as a camera operator making $40,000 to watch cameras. Kelly's nephew L.T. Taylor works at P.W. as a night foreman althouth he's never there. He runs a construction business, and he's always out working that when he's suppose to be at P.W. He also uses the Proviso trucks and supplies to operate his side business. Kelly's neice Marcy Thomas works at PMSA. Kelly's friend Luther Curtis works at PW as a security guard. Curtis' wife worked with Kelly at Comed also. I could go on, but you get my point.

1. Ronald Craine is a neighbor...not a relative. He was hired during Manzo's Presidency. Ronald Craine has a bachelor degree and has 30 years of service from Oscar Meyer where he was a supervisor.
So that's 1 wrong.
2. Eric Macon worked at Proviso West years before he rented an apartment from Theresa Kelly. And he is not a relative.
So that's 2 wrong.
3. Dorthy Raye has worked at Proviso West for over 20 years. And yes, she is not a relative of Theresa Kelly.
So that's 3 wrong. Wow...you're doing pretty bad!

4. Ami Relf is a teacher who was hired on her own merits. Her mother Mrs. Relf has worked in District 89 as a teacher for about...30 years. Ami just completed her masters program from DePaul and graduated magna cum laude! We need more "qualified" teachers like her. And, you guessed it...She is not a relative of Theresa Kelly.

Since Alexis is the principal and Delester is her 2nd in command…we can refer to them as Fidel and Raul! Now, commence to name the other District 209 employed relatives…and don’t forget your brother.
Again, the sooner we get Chris Welch and the majority board out of our district the better. Again, I am asking for Chris Welch’s resignation immediately! Our community deserves better!

I am amazed by the audacity of Grady Rivers and Theresa Kelly!
First for Rivers stating the obvious that he could care less about what the children need, and instead only caring about what his friends want and hiring another pencil pusher for six figures.
Second, with Theresa Kelly who some how has escaped the public light of misdoings, because she has attacked Chris Welch, thus distracting the spotlight away from her corrupt past!
The only differance between Rivers and Kelly is that Kelly has done it and will do it again, what Rivers has done, but nobody will attack her because it's not the popular thing to do now!!
Remeber, everybody now is doing the"popular thing" and "bad mouthing" Welch and attacking Welch, but the truth is that Kelly has done the same things Welch is accused of, Flowers did the same things when he ran 89, and now Rivers is doing the same things.
What's the differance if it's Welch or Kelly or Flowers or Rivers when they are all doibg it? The differance my friends are is that Welch has always been a threat to them and they want to bury him, because Welch is young,smart,educated and ambitous, and neither of these broke niggas will allow for an "uppity" nigga to get ahead of them!!

I am absolutely appalled at the insinutation that Thea Perkins, the daughter of the Maywood Trustee with the same last name, was hired by District 89 solely because of her mother's political influence.
Thea Perkins was principal of Longfellow School in Oak Park for the past several years and had the profound respect of her staff and school parents. I have three children who attend Longfellow School and our entire school community is sad to see her leave. She is a gracious, intelligent and hardworking individual who is also an effective adminstrator, educator, and advocate. She thrived in our school system that has exceedingly high expectations.
Oak Park will miss her and I am not the only person who feels that way. Any insinuation that she is incompetent and only hired because of her political ties is just downright insulting.
District 89 is going to be the beneficiary of a fine educator by the name of Thea Perkins. Be thankful that you are getting her. She will be missed in Oak Park.

I wonder if Carl or the Sun Times can get a list of every employee in Proviso and 89 and 88 and compile the list to see who is who and how their related to either a present or past board member or Mayor in Proviso! The person who's writing about Theresa Kelly is disturbed and obsessed. I would suggest for Theresa Kelly to report this man to the proper authorities due to his stalking nature and unbalanced personality. Why else would he write about her in such a derogatory fashion in a posting that doesn't concern her?
The extremely sad part about his postings is that you just dragged several innocent people through the mud due to your false accusations. People like LT, Dorthy Raye, Ronald Craine, Marci Thomas etc. These people become victims when you choose to write about their personal lives due to your overzealousness and obsession with Theresa Kelly. The people you named in your postings are not politicians or elected officials, nor do they claim or aspire to be. These people didn’t receive their jobs through political favors nor are they campaign contributors. They are just average citizens living out their lives to the best of their abilities. In your previous postings, you have purposely insulted “senior citizens”, “single mothers”, “welfare recipients”, “women”, “pregnant teens”, “tax-payers”, “District 209 citizens and parents”, as well as accusing almost everyone of being a “Nazi” or “communist”. I’m sure I am not alone when I state that your constant, immature bickering and rhetoric is “tired” and has no place in an intelligent discussion.
The person who wrote this is a self-proclaimed "successful attorney", when actually he's a career politician and a lawyer...in other words, a slime ball!
This same person told the citizens of Melrose Park that his mother died in a car crash when he was younger.

This behavior from "Emmanuel" is commonplace and shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Remember, the vicious smear campaign he ran against Karen Yarbrough and her family? “Emmanuel’s campaign against Yarbrough was one of the most disgusting displays of personal attacks I have ever seen perpetrated against another politician, let alone, a woman. It was sickening!

No speculating on medical conditions of public officials unless they directly pertain to performance of duties, e.g. Stroger's stroke.
Also, passing rumors about public officials using illegal drugs will be deleted unless the allegations are reasonably well founded and relevant. If so-and-so likes a little blow on her/his spare time, so be it.

If Thersa Kelly runs for 209 in April, not only will she lose, but she will tarnish Flowers and Yarbrough, because nobody will then be able to believe them when they say they are planning to clean up 209 and end with cronyism and put the money instead to our children.
Warning to Flowers, you have worked hard, struggled hard, fought alone,withstood the attacks, to now when your closer than ever to finally achieving your goal to truely improve 209, to let a mishap like Kelly run on your name and reputation!!!
Don't do it Charles, let her run by herself with another group, neither Karen or yourself needs to be brandished, and tarnished with the brush of Kelly and her past!!!

I just read this thread for the first time and I must reply to one of the earliest in this thread "stunned democrat". As far as I know, I have never met Ms. Perkins daughter and know nothing of whether she is qualified. Like many of you, I have heard that, even if she is well qualified, this appointment was NOT the choice of the superindentent and that is the continuing crying shame of the way 89 and 209 are run. Finally, it is absolutely certain that I have never supported Ms. Edwenna Perkins in her many runs for office. In fact i have always opposed her campaigns and been totally unimpressed by her "I am just asking a question" that has alienated her from the board and causes her to be on the one side of many 6-1 votes.
