ED, Chicago Public Radio forum at Maywood Library [M]

WBEZ's Chicago Matters is examining public education. It is hosting four community forums. The first one will be at the Maywood Public Library, Thursday, February 16th at 7 PM.

Show producers are requesting input. Email them at ChicagoMatters@ChicagoPublicRadio.org or call (312) 948-4723.

Chicago Matters also has a blog.

What issues would you raise at the forum?

  • Don't post under "anonymous". Choose a pseudonym. Any more posts under "anonymous" in this thread and I will delete them.

  • BTW, for the people that noticed that my bicycle had a flat tire after the event, I do not believe a vandal did it.

The tire had a small piece of glass that had worked its way deep enough to puncture the intertube.

  • My summary of the forum was that people are pretty discontented with the education status quo, but there was little consensus as to what to do about it.

People don't like the funding, the curriculum, the text books, the politicians, etc.

    But what to do?

I suspect that charter schools may be the answer for urban areas. Families and students can opt for teaching methods that suit them.

I did notice at least three of the people attending were teachers or administrators at charter schools.
