A07, Yarbrough/Flowers school board candidates have website [D88, D89, D209]

Citizens for Better Schools has a website. Citizens for Better Schools is the umbrella organization supporting the Yarbrough/Flowers candidates in District 88 (Bellwood & Stone Park elementary schools), District 89 (Maywood & Melrose Park elementary schools) and District 209 (Proviso Township High Schools).

Rep. Karen Yarbrough
is also the Proviso Township Democratic Committeeman. Charles Flowers, EdD, is a member of the District 209 board of education and was elected as the Cook County Regional Superintendent of Education in November. He takes office in July.

The alliance between Yarbrough and Flowers grew from their opposition to Emanuel "Chris" Welch, the current president of the District 209 board of education.

Flowers leads the minority block on the District 209 board. If his candidates sweep the election (three seats) he will be able to form a majority and replace Welch as president of the school board.

Welch ran against Yarbrough in the Democratic Primary for state representative in March, 2006. The coalition that coalesced to support Yarbrough included many people who had grievances against Welch. Welch had been the school district attorney at District 88. So, various people who opposed his actions at District 88 and 209 joined Yarbrough's organization.

  • Good candidates...

I'm voting for this ticket across the board.

It's time for Bitchy Chrissy to pay the piper!

  • So, Carl, as the election approaches -- can you give us a rundown on all the candidates for district 209:

    Johnny Perryman
    Carla D. Johnson
    Robin Foreman
    Robert "Bob" Cox
    Terrase Craig
    Theresa Kelly
    Ralph Harris,
    Kevin McDermott
    Janice Johnson
    James Boyd

Is there anything factual you can say about them ?

  • Perryman is off the ballot.

Johnson is Sen. Lightford's administrative assistant.

Foreman is Nikita Johnson's aunt. Nikita Johnson is the business manager at D209. Unless she's broken up with him she has a semi-clandestine relationship with board president Chris Welch.

Bob Cox is a thoughtful Forest Park guy who for some reason thinks it would be a good idea to keep Welch as president of the school board. I think Cox ran for FP commissioner four years ago and did quite poorly.

Terrase Craig is a low level employee at D209 and the mother of Welch's nephew.

Theresa Kelly is on the school board and aligned with board member Charles Flowers, the leader of the anti-Welch minority.

Ralph Harris lives in Bellwood and previously lived on the West Side. He works for the state. He heads the adolescent substance abuse programs for the state of Illinois.

Kevin McDermott is an activist and businessman. He lives in Westchester and is formerly from Oak Park. He's exceptionally talented. He'll bring some serious accounting experience to the table.

McDermott, Harris and Kelly are running as a slate and will align with Flowers to change the board presidency.

Janice Johnson is from Bellwood, I think.

Welch basically has two slates in the race. His primary slate is Carla Johnson, Foreman and Cox. However, his secondary candidates are Craig and Janice Johnson.

James Boyd lives in Westchester and is a former board member. I'm not sure of other details about him.

  • Terrase Craig is the mother of Crystal Craig, Welch's niece. Crystal Craig is one of the security guards that was given full-time status at last months board meeting.

  • Terrase Craig's daughter also works for Proviso at PMSA.

Terrase Craig is also known for supporting gang activty in the school. She is a former gang member off of St. Charles Avenue. I think a criminal background check should have been done on her before putting her in this race.

  • James Boyd was put on the slate by Chris Welch and Don"Big daddy" Sloan. Boyd is a bank teller, who states he is a loan officer. His angle is to get some bussiness for his bank and hopefully get some commssion.Boyd is also very closely aligned to Gene Moore and Danny Cogliniese!
Janice Johnson and Tersa Craig are meant to split the vote, along with Foreman and Johnson, so as Theresa Kelly can lose and give Welch another women to manipulate.Welch like 's single women, divorced women who he can intimidate and threatened and mentally, and even physically intimidate.Welch is only hoping for one of his 6 canididates to win, so he can keep board majority and his board presidency!2 more years of Welch and Fields doing as he is told will eventually destroy 209, and as long as Lightford and the Democrats control springfield, no state action to investigate the district will happen.Proviso voters are the only hope, if not the full effects of Hurricane Welch, will take effect and completely destroy all of Proviso township and make our township into the first lofficial suburban Cook County ghetto!

  • carl can you give the rundown for districts 88 and 89 as well?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:03 PM, April 03, 2007

  • I'll see what I can do with 88 and 89.

I've been to a number of 88 meetings, so I feel better about that one.

89 I have high regard for Cynthia Broughton the superintendent, but I know less about the board.

  • Be aware of the District 89 incumbents running for re-election. Micromanagement is their agenda, along with ensuring that "their" people remain in or are promoted to board-created positions. Nepotism runs high among board members and employees. Not only does nepotism run high but personal relationships between board members and employees...talk about a confict of interest. The only interest the incumbents running for re-election have is their own interests. Beware, be leary and be smart. Vote these self-serving egocentric people out and put people in who truly value and understand the true purpose of a board of education!
