BLOG, D209 restricts access to Probe; Proviso Insider begins publishing [D209]

Yesterday at approximately 11 AM Proviso Township High Schools, District 209, began restricting access to Proviso Probe. Apparently Proviso Probe has been added to the list of banned websites, like pornography.

Today I contacted Superintendent Stan Fields to request an explanation.

In a development that may or may not be related a new blog named Proviso Insider began publishing yesterday. It's editorial perspective seems to be pro-Fields/Welch and anti-Flowers/Kelly.

[UPDATE: Somehow my letter to Fields found its way to the upstart blogger Proviso Insider before Fields responded to my request.]

  • Funny how Nyberg is all for free speech only when he's the one doing the talking. Good for whoever is putting up an alternate point of view to Nyberg's hate filled, destructive lies. And good for whoever put an end to taxpayers paying for people looking at this blog.

  • The freaks, with their incessant references to perversion and slander, is what's hurting Proviso Probe. Everytime a decent thread gets started they come along and effectively destroy any inclination to follow-up or contribute.

While a person does have the right to feel angry, the appropriate response is to seek constructive ways toward influencing the circunstances, typically via argument that is constructive.

What we instead get is a bunch of obsessive banter, from the equivalent of an emotional weakling. All this garbage, in my opinion, reflects nothing but a ton of internalized anger reflecting a quality of pre- adolescent rage suggestive of an adult that is stuck in some primitive developmental stage.

To be honest, I've had enough. It's these types who contribute to the formation of alternative forums and censorship of the kind that has afflicted this Site.

  • cia fraud--Funny how Nyberg is all for free speech only when he's the one doing the talking.

How have I stifled your ability to speak freely at Proviso Probe?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 9:49 PM, September 28, 2006

  • to the "welch_is"s

You dude(s) are just plain stupid.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 9:55 PM, September 28, 2006

  • p-taxpayer--Don't you think the environment you encourage is a little damaging and counter-productive?

Proviso was governed wisely and had high-minded debate of civic issues before I started blogging. It was a Garden of Eden of local politics.

p-taxpayer, I sorry you consider Proviso Probe biased. I've tried unbiased reporting and I'm not very good at it.

p-taxpayer, how would you characterize Fields behavior at Monday's board meeting? (Please discuss in that thread.)

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 9:57 PM, September 28, 2006

  • Proviso Insider claims to be "unbiased"... sorta like Fox News Network is "fair and balanced".

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 10:01 PM, September 28, 2006

  • To blowback:

Some folk just persist in being prisoner of their own internal programming, actively supporting the socialization processes that have served to damage them.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:15 PM, September 28, 2006

  • Are you a member on the board?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:29 PM, September 28, 2006

  • But, You can truly see that some people are Obsessive Compulsive on this board...

for whatever reason, they are obessed with Chris Welch, and it's kinda scary to be fully frank with you...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:36 PM, September 28, 2006

  • If I was in the decision making authority I would block out Proviso Probe also.

The employees that we are paying for on the tax dollar should not be spending their time reading this bullshit.

This is an utter waste of tax payer dollars.

  • I have no idea what district 209's criteria for restricting computer access to certain web sites are, but I find it interesting that, whatever these criteria are, they are being applied to accessing the Proviso Probe at this particular time: shortly after Dr. Fields' arrival to District 209 and during the time period in which there is particular focus on the power plays and apparent shenanigans going on within the district.

Actually, Carl, this prohibition to access will likely only serve to pique the curiousity of potential new readers and solidify the resolve of continuing readers to access the Proviso Probe when and where they can. The prohibition of access to the Proviso Probe in District 209 will not protect those administrators and others in power who don't want their actions to be scrutinized or exposed to the light of day.

I do agree that some postings on the Proviso Probe transcend, at the least, the boundaries of good taste, and, at the worst, standards of common decency. I think a bit more editing on Carl's behalf is called for especially in regard to those postings that offend common decencies. Posts that cast aspersions without the slightest bit of credible substantiation upon others' sexual orientations and practices should be edited or simply deleted. Other posts which engage in name-calling for name-calling sake, especially if this is done within the contexts of belittling and profanity-laden harangues, should be edited or deleted as well.

True, in doing so, the Proviso Probe may lose some of its appeal, but to those for whom some appeal has been lost and who consequently find the Probe to mundane to tame to read, I say, "good riddance" and go back to reading and/or putting graffiti on bathroom walls.

  • To be fair, shouldn't the school block ALL blogspot addresses and not just single one out? Seems to me that an employee accessing any from work might be blockable. After work, they are free to view and post then.

Face it, looks like they have you on "Ignore". I think you shoulda stuck to your House Rules instead of allowing the sickos to pollute your Site.

You have at least one poster who has resulted in your Site being tagged as "filthy". In my opinion, more than a few submissions had gone way over the top. Better judgement should have been exercised.

    Future bloggers take heed.

  • Proviso Insider does make threats against District 209 employees.

What do you think? Should employees be allowed to access Nyberg's site while at work? If so, should they be allowed to visit other trashy sites like myspace.com, pornography sites and the like? Should the employees face discipline?

If Proviso Insider isn't written by Welch, it's clearly written by someone very close to him.

IMO, this kind of threat is not cool.

I also think it's bogus. Any discipline that is imposed for reading Proviso Probe will eventually be overturned in court.

  • some, are you the official response to my letter requesting Fields explain the decision?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 11:30 AM, September 30, 2006

  • Carl,
You think a taxpayer funded janitor or school teacher has a right to read the Proviso Probe on the taxpayer's dime? What law school did you go to? No one is going to answer your silly little questions that you post here or send to officials. You're way too unimportant for that.

And whoever is criticizing Welch for losing an election: be reminded that Karen Yarbrough lost her first run for state rep. The only way she was able to finally "win" was to get her corrupt friend at the AG's office to gin up an indictment against her opponent - and the charges were thrown out right after Yarbrough "won."

Let's not re-write history here. Karen Yarbrough "won" by illegally abusing the legal system and manipulating the voters. No matter what she does, she will always ultimately be known for that.

  • c. nuts, what restrictions should apply to school district employees using the web?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 12:04 PM, September 30, 2006

  • If it's not apparent I used the word "upstart" ironically.

The more people blogging on local issues the better.

Blogs that only cover one side of the debate will not get much attention. And having the debate will be good for the community.

I'm glad Proviso Insider joined the discussion even if I disagree with him on most issues.

  • Carl Nyberg said..."some, are you the official response to my letter requesting Fields explain the decision?"

    No!

It just seems to me that any acknowledgement of your lettter is to implicitly legitimize your presence. I don't think that such would be their intent. After all, given the constant barrage of accusations about sexual proclivities, orientation and past affairs involving personalities in the administration and on the school board, all that's been accomplished is to bring your site down to the level of a gossip rag with no inclination toward prudent judgement in the form of editing.

Outside of what appears to some as a grand degree of intentional negligence I find your blog generally informative. The way I see it, you must feel beholding to some macarbe principle of free speech regardless of how malicious and mean-spirited is some of the content.

I'll continue to visit here, but at the same time welcome the presence of alternative blogs having to do with topics of concern to the Proviso community.

  • After Chris Welch sued me--a completely bogus defamation suit which he withdrew after I obtained legal representation--I'm inclined to avoid moderating comments.

If I approve a comment I take some responsibility for it.

Without moderation I'm not legally responsible for the comments.

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 12:42 PM, September 30, 2006

  • You know, a leader is often judged by the followers she attracts. By the tenor of Yarbrough supporters' comments and the company they keep, she is certainly not a high-minded public servant. The blatant racism and low comments must be coming straight out of Yarbrough's mouth. Shame on her.

  • To My Nuts, guilt by association? That's pretty lame.

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 12:54 PM, October 01, 2006

  • Great comeback Carl. You're hurting Yarbrough more than helping her. Keep it up.

  • Proviso Insider is pure trash...and so is it's author Chris Welch.

    What a waste...

I feel sorry for his mother.

Billy Welch indicted for selling drugs...Stacy Welch on the lam...what a honorable lineage!

  • THere was a directive to the IT Dept to block access to the Proviso Probe and all message boards and forums. This action was not taken because employees were not working and accessing sites on work time; action was taken because employees were finding out information about the district and questioning what was going on.

Morale is so low at East/West, that many excellent employees are have stopped going that extra mile to do their jobs. I heard one employee(who use to go way beyond the call of duty), say that she is now doing the least she can because it doesn't matter anymore.

Note: Most employees were only accessing this site during their lunch or break periods.

  • This messsage is a test. I am posting to the Probe simply as a means of testing just how good is the function/mechanism that is used to restrict access while inside the confines of 209.

Obviously, as my presence will attest, censorship of such type is for all practical purposes a mere illusion. It's simply impossible.

  • V, what did you do to bypass the restriction at District 209?

By Blogger Carl Nyberg, at 10:58 PM, October 11, 2006

  • If I was the Sup I would block these blogs from access while employees are working they do not need to be working and being paid while reading this BULLSHIT
