POL, Gary Woll's take on Proviso Dem Party

Gary Woll's musings on the Yarbrough led Democratic Party:
So, it has been four and half months since Karen Yarbrough defeated Gene Moore and became head of the Proviso Democratic Party. My musings represent only my view(s) of the new organization but, let me say right up front, I am initially very impressed. We meet twice a month, take in a number of new members every meeting, are running the previously mentioned seminars for “young” Democrats and meeting, questioning, and VOTING on some interesting candidates. Karen asked right out front at a recent meeting.

What were ALL of our thoughts on who should replace John Stroger on the ballot? I missed that meeting but it is my understanding that it was almost unanimous among those who spoke up, that she support Danny Davis and, she DID!!

Although not bound to it by any of our by-laws. We recently had a long debate about whether we would ever, as an organization, stay neutral or endorse a Republican in November, after the primary. I don’t think anyone, even ME felt that we should EVER, as the official Democratic Party in Proviso, endorse a Republican but, and this is key, we had a great, no holds barred discussion of that issue. My all-time example is, years ago I as did MANY other Democrats, endorsed GOP candidate, Bernard Carey over Ed Hanrahan!! The point is that we were Democrats, acting democratically. I look forward to great future debates and actual decisions by the organization about which Democrats we will back in the primary when they have opposition. I know that neither Karen, nor the great group of people joining our new Democratic Organization will NEVER fail to endorse the Obama’s of our party and that’s something for Democrats to “party” about.

What's your take on the change in leadership for the Proviso Dems?

  • Wow! Sloan you and your Lots and lots of economically and politically disenfranchised rednecks hanging around the 209 and township offices... licking their chops at the prospect of getting "their school and township" back. Y'know, it's that very thinking, and I use the term loosely, that left "you people" living in tract housing in Westchester... LOL Always thinking with your beercans instead of your brains, but then, what would you use to bubble in the lotto ticket, or scan the TV Guide for that repeat of King of the Hill. Don't worry folks, leave the schools and the township to us, we'll take good care of them. You can still cold call us from time to time, we might buy a subscription or a water purifying system... But then scurry back up south of the line before it gets dark, don't wanna get yourself caught in the middle of a lambada or anything, right?
I can't believe what you say about Karen and us, who support empowerment off the people!
Why don't you get back on the radio and continue your KKK rants toward good honest goverment.Sloan your despicable. Shame on your allies Gillian, Tony Williams, Grady Rivers,Chris Welch,Brian Cross,Angelo Luciano and Kathy Ryan!!!! Your blithering attacks and lies that "Karen is working with you" and "she knows better to not bite that hand that fed her", is just plain stupid and a big, bold face lie!!!

Karen keep on Rockin and Rollin, because we are with you!!!!

  • Karen's House Resolution 125 garnered about 20 Dem co-sponsors and on April 25 was assigned to the Rules Committee, which is the burial ground of many a hairbrained scheme as well as lots of good legislation.

If Dems take control of Congress next year, I'm sure impeachment will be resurrected.

  • BTW, what's Rich Miller say in his post linking to this entry?

I didn't expect it to gather any attention from outside the area.

  • I find it fascinating that with all the complaints about political patronage in 89 and 209 and political fundraising so closely tied to contractors who do or want to do business with school, township and village governments that none of the earliest responses to my "musings" have bothered to critique my commentary about a different way of running a political organization. Could it be that many of the Probe readers, sadly, are only interested in attacking others and/or gaining, or keeping jobs/contracts and various namecalling? As one Maywood Trustee would say, "just asking a question?"
