ED, special board meeting to hire new sup't [D209]

I've heard secondhand that District 209 has scheduled a special board meeting to hire a new superintendent on Wednesday evening.

Anyone have details?

  • The job was there for the taking. Anyone possessing the best qualifications could have easily walked away with the honors.

The Bickert Group, serving in the capacity of independent advisor to the process, has a reputation for doing thorough investigative work and fitting the right person to the position. It is a fact that all of their past superintendent recommendations involve folk who remain in service to this very day in their respective district assignments.

That Libka withstood the scrutiny is of no surprise to me. Anyone who has worked up close and observed him operate under fire would know that the man is imminently qualified for the position as called for at this time. District 209 is undergoing a unique transformation and part of what was required for the position presented him with a distinct advantage.

I have no doubt that there will the the usual nay sayers who will proclaim the process as rigged from the start. There will probably be claims that Welch has successfully orchestrated another behind the scene coup, getting his own way in typical self-serving fashion. However, such is simply not the case.

Much of the discontent will be without merit to the people who really know the situation. The challenge is to now go forward and disseminate the product of many months of planning, to instill a sense that further progress is indeed within the offering. The gauntlet has been tossed.

What is required is that we simply forge ahead with a greater sense of commitment, and those who hold positions of responsibility simply do what is being asked. I expect an ongoing process of purge and more consolidation as a new team begins to take shape. Such initiatives carry with them no guarantee of success.

Successful execution will depend in great degree on the level of resolve that's present. From what I suspect, we've arrived at the point where there can be no shirking of our responsibility. The heat is on, and it's "showtime".

  • Libka has done a Superb job as CEO of Proviso High Schools, and he managed to go to school and get his credentials in order while doing his job. The Board has invested a lot in Libka, and Libka has invested a lot in the schools and the community. On this website and in many circles, Welch is going to be criticized no matter what he does because it's all political. Me for one, I'm glad he has supported a good, Christian grounded man like Libka. And from the sounds of things around Proviso high schools these days, so are the students, teachers and staff.

  • The Bickert Group is extremely well respected. That is why their candidates are still in their positions. Also, that's why many boards, just like Proviso's board, vote unanimously to hire them. The nay sayers and political discontents like Flowers and Kelly will always have something negative to say because they are power hungry. I also believe they are jealous of the young brother Welch...but that's a whole different discussion and analysis.

  • Hey...where is that political hack for Melrose Park Gary Marine? Will he be there tomorrow to support who ever Theresa Kelly tells him to support? or is he still hiding because he so ashamed of himself after trying to bring mobsters into the high school to serve as attorneys? Personally, I think the guy should be ashamed to call himself a board member since he hasn't been at a board meeting since February or March. How can you be a part of a board and now participate in Superintendent interviews? Gary Marine you are a sad, pathetic joke.

  • Steven where do you and so many people in this community get the idea that a non-partisan, one vote voting board member retain all this "power?" How could you suggest that the Bickert Group may be in collusion when you admit you have no knowledge of them? Also, it appears from the comments that the Proviso board unanimously approved this company. So are they working in collusion with all of them. Your logic seems warped at best, and I think Libka has accomplished a lot even if it's just reestablishing good moral around Proviso. If teachers are demoralized, you won't get the most out of them like they were were dictators Jackson and Gilchrist prowled around.

  • Since I'm not the only one amused and provoked by the confusion of imminent and eminent in d.r.'s note, may I also ask what in the world does the phrase "within the offering" mean? Are the words "offering" and "offing" also confused?
The way you earn trust is by being trustworthy. No amount of puffery from your friends and no amount of condemnation from your enemies is going to gain trust. It may compromise or lose trust, unfortunately.

  • I have zero confidence in Libka. Based on his current job performance, he is not qualified or worthy to be superintendent.

I would expect Kelly, Flowers and Marine to voice their concerns and displeasure when it's time to cast this vote.

I'm also interested to see if Shirley Madlock stands her ground. Madlock usually votes with Welch and the majority board, but in a rare split between her and Welch, she actually voted her conscious and voted against Libka.

Libka is politically connected to Chris Welch and the majority board.

Stay tuned...I'll have more info for you soon...

  • I've created an entry under which to discuss Libka's successes and failures at District 209.

I'm going to close comments in this discussion.
