KLEPT, Marilyn Thurman hires member of her household [D88]

At the last board meeting there was conflict over the minutes from an earlier meeting.

Three individuals were hired, including Laron Murphy. Board Member John Wicks objected to the minutes on a couple grounds. First, the conditions of employment were changed after the individuals were identified. The jobs were posted as being without benefits. After the three were hired, the jobs had benefits.

Murphy is registered to vote at the same address as Board Member Marilyn Thurman.

The minutes reflected that Murphy was hired in a 4-3 vote. Without Thurman's vote he wouldn't have been hired.

At District 209 complaints were raised about Board Members Emanuel "Chris" Welch and Reatha "Sue" Henry voting to hire Billy Welch, brother of Chris, and Chavonne Henry, daughter of Sue.

In that case attorney Mark Sterk ruled there was no conflict of interest that violated Illinois law. The Attorney Discipline and Registration Committee (ARDC) agreed with Sterk's analysis.

If a board member can vote to hire a member of her household Illinois law is about meaningless.

  • There you go again crome dome. there is nothing wrong with doing business the old school way. Just think about it. If you were on the board and had a chance to give two jobs to your family members who live with you, that means that they can help you pay some of your bills in the house you live in . Its like a legal form of laundering money. She evn has gotten other relatives outside of her home jobs. so now when she needs to borrow some money she does not havve to worry about from who.this also gives her some guarenteed help on her elections. They have to go out and get her petitions signed and also pass out her campaign flyers. I applaud her for being so smart for thinking like that. she has no problem because all of her family watches her back. even the in-laws who work in D-88. now that she is back in the top spot she can wheel and deal like the old days when I was a janitor. we use to have Bar-B-Q`s at her house and her sponsor would pay for it all. Man I miss those days though. Sholuld have been there crome dome. Get on board and stop hatin. Mr. Miller did along with RC, and Busby too. dont think she is so upset about the little move last wek. she knew all along. they me several times about it. See crome dome you need to know who the real players are because it aint the minority.

  • You all are talking about Maria Castrejon, Marilyn Thurman, Miller and Anderson. What about John Wicks and Antoinette Dorris? James K. Graham is a cousin of Mr. Wicks. Did anyone say anything when Wicks voted to hire his cousin? What about Ms. Dorris' next door neighbor working in the district as a janitor? Did anyone say anything when she voted to hired her neighbor? Let's cut out all the crap. What the fight is about in 88 and 209 is whose cronies are going to get hired. If Wicks and Dorris are getting their way, their ok. When they are not, they are not ok. Problem: Who is talking about the kids? Where was Wicks and Dorris during the superintendent search? Word on the street is they didn't show up for the majority of the interviews. I think we see what's going on here.

  • STUDENTS FIRST SAYS:

Board Watcher you are absolutely right! What about the children? But you can't have unethical board members that hire their live in DICKS! Thurman and Castrejon could care less about the children. Look at Thurman, she has been on the board 15 years. Do you know what could have happened in 15 years? She could have turned district 88 around in 5-10 years, but she does not care. She has had the majority of the votes under her tenure as a board member and president. Why didn't she work for the children in her first 8 years on board? Because just like a HOE she was getting PIMPED! Under Thurman's leadership district 88 has gone down to the PITS!
I know I wouldn't send my child to district 88. Look at the board members: Anderson (criminal and can't read, the dumbest board member to date), Miller (Background check needs to be done? Questions about inappropriate dealings with young ladies! and is the 2nd dumbest board member to date), Castrejon (sold her soul and her community out for a few jobs and has money problems at the clerk's office, the Latino community is ashamed of her because she is getting PIMPED by an Italian), and Thurman (been on the board 15 years and ain't done Shit! Need I say more about Thurman the Exterminator)

I agree Board Watcher, but 88 needs to clean house! I hope the people will vote these people back to the DUMPS where they came from.
