D209 union members given bait and switch

This morning a source at Proviso Township High Schools (District 209) called to say that yesterday the support staff union voted to accept the furlough plan to cut district expenses.

To get people to vote "yes" the union members were told voting "no" would result in job cuts.

This morning Superintendent Robert Libka sent an email telling support staff that the district would cut jobs even though the union voted to accept the furlough plan.

What's the harm in being honest and up front with employees?

Let me speculate: when you have a management team that's used to lying all the time then they get in the habit of lying even when there's no particular advantage.

  • Sorry to say, but your sources are wrong this time. Today teachers union voted against Dr. Evil's plan 306-1. The support staff also voted against the plan. The "yes man" Libka did send out an email to employees explaining that if we vote against the furlough, the district would have to terminate jobs. His email killed any goodwill he had with the teachers. He should have let Dr. Evil do all the talking.

    Of course Chris "everybody hates" Welch.

    Also, what is up with SPONGE BOB LIBKA? After reading his letter to the employees I did have a WTF moment. Thanks Libka for again being the IDIOT and SUCK ASS you are paid to be!

  • Who is Dr. Evil?
    Your union leadership put you guys in a pickle. They knew the district was drowning in debt and the first place they would look is at support staff and teachers to cut. You and the union also knew that Libka and Chris are liars.
    But nonetheless you guys went hook line and sinker and support this barrel of snakes.
    Your next election should yield some different leadership if you are smart.
    Sorry to say you got "sold out."

    PS Ask for your dues back, they certainly don't deserve them.

  • People are so quick to attack Nikita, but who is pulling her strings? I know Nikita from high school, and she was quiet and to herself. We should not be so quick to judge her without knowing what's really going on. I know that she is in love with an ASSHOLE! A man that is manipulative, deceitful, arrogant, and is MR. EVIL. Love is blind, and in their case BLIND, DEAF, and MUTE, Let's not be so quick to send Nikita to the chopping block. She is being fooled by the Welch Group.

    When a sista needs help, her elders should come to her aid. Where is her family? Her aunts? Her friends? Anyone? The sista needs help. She needs to begin a 12 step program to rid any substance of Welch from her body. I hope it is not to late.

    The million dollar (or in the case of Proviso 10 million dollar) question is would the proud parents send their child to any Proviso Township school that Welsh is involved with? I bet not. He only wants to destroy the lives of other children.

    You may have gone to school with Nikita, but you don't know what she has become. She completely lacks the communication skills, the people skills necessary to manage an out of control environment created by a destructive business decision she made.

    So teachers, everyone wanted Libka back because he was more personable . Well, if you read that letter urging you to vote "yes" you see that he is just a pawn of Welsh. He's controllable. Fields stood up to the corruption of the board, that is why he is gone. Libka goes along with the program. Think about it. Also, who else would be beat up like Libka was last year by the same board. Embarrassing him, bumping him in lower and lower capacities and come back? You really have to have no self esteem to work for people that treat you like garbage.

    Rumor has it Libka and Nikita hate each other too. Isn't that interesting? It's nice to see the fifth floor in chaos. When Welsh finishes wiping out all the support staff crucial to the day-to-day operations and his girl destroys Libka, there will be no Proviso left for the state to recover.

    I urge all parents to move out of Proviso immediately. For the sake of your children.

    I urge all talented faculty and staff to find new jobs immediately. else you will be victims of the biggest tragedy, since Hiroshima.

    Proviso is Falling.

  • Today Proviso reportedly rolled out $60,000 WORTH OF TRASH CANS. Really nice, expensive trash cans, with school colors and logos stamped/engraved into the sides of the cans.

    And these had to be placed by the only group that agreed to the pay cuts. First off, I would ask to see all of the ballots if I were a support staff member who vioted against it, because there are some who question how a deadlock of 34-34 got broken.

    Do they understand, regardless of when the cans were purchased, that right after insulting the staff by asking for money back from their pay, they have now made the insult more egregious? Unfortunately, I think they do. They seem to just want to continue to insult their people.

    I don't see how Libka can have an ounce of self respect. He was supported by teachers at Proviso because he was once one of them. He got screwed over by the district once, and the teachers were sympathetic to and supportive of him. He was hired back as an interim, and the teachers were again supportive, although wondering why he would subject himself to this den of jackals again. When he was finally made full superintendent, teachers were still supportive, if not optimistic about his ability to effect change.

    But effect change he did. He changed himself from a quiet toady into a full-fledged jackal himself.

    The teachers know he was told to write the email he sent out to sway the vote. The letter was as ineffective as he is. In fact all he accomplished was to anger people who had supported him and saw a complete betrayal.

    Bob, you knew the email was wrong and you sent it out. You hold the top position in the ditrict. You could have refused to send the email. Is your title that important to you?

    Actually the grabage cans cost $100,000. The only person who spoke out against the garbage cans was Kelly. Look back at the minutes from the June 2007 meeting held at Proviso West. I do recall Fields and Welch ignoring Kelly's inquiry.

    It's going to take more than Kelly to fight the evil doing of Welch, Forman, Nikita Johnson, Sue Henry, Cross, and Cox.

    As a former PWHS teacher I am appalled that the district would sink to this level. Proviso teachers are among the hardest working and lowest paid hs teachers in the suburban area. These teachers deserve a pay hike not a cut. They have families to support just like everyone else. Why should they suffer because Mr. Fields, especially, went out of his way to spend, spend, spend. The football stadium lights were not needed and the bleacher seats could have been maintained, etc. As for the Proviso Math and Science Academy being Dr. Gilchrist's folly,the district did not need this school. The other two schools offer AP classes and accomodate honors students more effectively than the Academy does. I know for a fact that two young brothers who were home schooled for grade school took a proficiency test in Mathematics and placed out of algebra and into geometry, but because they chose to go to the academy they had to repeat algebra. Had they gone to either of the other two schools they would have been accelerated and been able to advance to higher level courses sooner. This deflates the idea of the Academy being the "best" in my opinion.
