The yard signs have been placed in Forest Park.

The mayor primary is next Tuesday, six days away. It's the usual polling places. Please remind your families, friends and neighbors to vote.

Forest Park Review
has letters from Steven Backman, Peter Nicholas Marafatsos, Patrick Tierney, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #24, Carl Nyberg, Terry Steinbach, Melissa Johnson and Barbara Plona.

[UPDATE: The Forest Park Review did profiles of all three candidates: Anthony Calderone (campaign website), Patrick Doolin (campaign website) and Theresa Steinbach (campaign website).]

  • Peter Marafatso is the former Executive Director of Forest Park Mainsteet. He got fired from that job because no one could stand him and he was nothing but a bullshitter, as you may have noticed in his letter. He makes the same irrelevant arguments every one of Tony Calderone's supporters make. He is nice, throws great parties, hangs out at block parties and made your house worth more. This is how people decide who will run their multi-million dollar village operations? They always conveniently leave out the corruption, incompetence and pay to play Calderone has brought to their town. Isn't blind faith a wonderful thing?

  • Of course he likes that he can call "his Mayor." That could be said of any of the candidates though, every one of them has friends or business acquaintenances that feel comfortable calling them. Some who can call Calderone might not feel comfortable calling Doolin or Steinbach but then again some calling Doolin or Steinbach wouldn't feel comfortable calling up good ole pay for play Calderone.

Just because he's nice and hangs out at your block party doesn't mean he's capable of "ruling" the village any longer. Let's have a breath of fresh air and next Tuesday vote for anyone besides Calderone-PLEASE! Enough already.

  • If Steinbach is for so much openness and transparency, why does she file her financial disclosures on paper instead of electronically? http://www.elections.state.il.us/CampaignDisclosure/CommitteeDetail.aspx?id=20129 What does she have to hide? The other candidates have their information available on the state website. Steinbach's is unavailable unless you drive downtown and file a FOIA with the State Board of Elections.

Why is she making having an eye on her campaign difficult for citizens?

Shouldn't CUinFP be demanding that she disclose this information electronically like the other Mayoral candidates do?

    Steinbach is a complete phony.

  • Here's the link.

  • Yes, it's a link that shows she filed the report on paper. So there is no way to see who contributed to her campaign. Some transparancy! Where's your outrage, Carl?

  • I have been to a training session where a political consultant told campaigns to file on paper rather than electronically b/c it was harder to search. This was in late '97 or early '98.

On the other hand, I've encountered stuff that's supposed to be easy to do on a computer that I couldn't figure out. Or perhaps the person who had the info didn't have access to a computer and could file it easily downtown.

If Steinbach is deliberately hiding her disclosure statement it does suggest that she's less committed to openness than she portrays herself.

But, what do you think she's hiding? Did she take more than $100 from someone outside Forest Park in violation of the CUFP pledge? Did she broker a deal with some Forest Park businesses that she wants to keep under wraps?

There might be a scandal here. There might not be.

Doolin should probably put someone from his campaign on the case b/c if Steinbach is doing something funky or violating the CUFP pledge then presumably the disillusioned Steinbach supporters would shift to Doolin on Tuesday.
