ED, board of education meeting tonight [D209]

What's going to happen at tonight's board meeting?

BTW, Bob Libka resigned. See Forest Park Review (Josh Adams).

  • I think the time has come to start planning a formalized campaign to rid Proviso District 209 of the toxic presence of Mr. Welch. Mr. Welch’s term has been marked by severe budgetary deficits, alleged nepotism, cronyism, favoritism, and partisanship, the disorganization and numerous failures of PMSA, and a slue of other charges including unprofessional conduct as demonstrated in various board meetings. The man is, in my opinion, an anathema to the progress of District 209 and to the best interests of the children the district serves.

Just posting Mr. Welch’s ignominious “credentials” on the Probe is probably not sufficient to oust him from the board. An organized campaign is needed, and, as such, there must be sufficient advanced planning to develop and implement an effective campaign. I submit that this “Squelch Welch” campaign can pick up a lot of momentum between today and election time (not that there isn’t quite a bit of momentum currently to squeeze this obstruction out of our system).

Along with him, I think it’s not too early to start mounting a campaign to rid ourselves of the duplicitous and “not quite ready for prime time” Mr. Fields. This guy has a demonstrated history of shrinking and baling out when the heat is applied. He really doesn’t know what he’s doing and is still in the experimental phase of becoming a sure-enough superintendent. Some of his major strategic moves so far in Proviso District 209 have been awkward, unjustifiably arrogant, counter-productive, and indicative of an individual who’s floundering in search of a solid administrative and educational philosophy to act as a road map for the direction he should take. This guy is WAY over his head and the shame of it is that he doesn’t see or chooses to ignore this huge vacant spot and seems to really think that he has the right answers. If that isn’t the epitome of arrogance and/or ignorance, I’m not sure what is. All we have to do is apply a simmering but constant heat and this charlatan and parvenu will likely pack it up and leave here with an additional helping of yoke on his face as he did in Mundelein. Perhaps, he can find a superintendency more befitting of his “skills” in the cornfield school districts south of here. Actually, the corn huskers might think that he is best suited for a position such as “Varsity Boys’ Assistant Football Coach” --- a position in which he could garner the non-contingent respect of naïve high school juniors and seniors. I’m sure he would thrive on it and he would become even more unjustifiably filled with himself whether he had a 0-12 or a 2-10 season.

Packed in his carrying bag, a rather behemoth one at that, should be “Mr. Nice Guy”, Mr. Libka, with his resignation from District 209 duly signed and sealed with a kiss-off. Perhaps, if Mr. Libka can maintain his mendacious smile, he can fool the corn huskers into believing that he has a modicum of competence (but not for long cause those corn huskers ain’t no dummies). Maybe he can be given the title, “Vice-President of New School Development”, or something similar, and the corn huskers can see how the “good guy” and ostensible educational “expert” can inappropriately bill the district for his advanced educational courses, perpetuate cost-overruns, oversee new schools with unqualified teachers, open new schools without the requisite supplies, and fail to have in place appropriate student class schedules. When called to task by a constituency that begins to suspect that, despite Mr. Libka’s portrayals to the contrary, he’s about as substantive as an evanescent wisp of malodor, Mr. Libka can utter profound pronouncements in his defense such as, “I concur”, “Oh, well”, “ I wasn’t cognizant …”, and similarly nonchalant and empty phrases.

If Mr. Libka is confronted by the prospect of emasculation at the hands of pissed off farmers wielding sharp swinging hoes, we can send the peerless apologist, Gary Woll, down yonder to soothe his feelings and to exclaim to all who will listen his “Wollisms” that Mr. Libka is a good neighbor, a nice guy, and someone who he’s proud to know.

If this confederacy of dunces should decide to migrate down south of here, I’ve got a feeling that they’ll be more than corn shucked down there because, like I said before, those corn huskers ain’t no dummies.

  • These writings are sickening and lend nothing to political discourse or the remediation of problems. I am particularly referring to the blackbald-cockroach commentaries. As for Steve, what ever our differences regarding Bob Libka, why can't you reveal your real name. I always realize that some of the "anonymous" and stupid names that people choose, there are some that fear for their jobs in 89 and/or 209, but whatever happened to real debate that, yes, follows the rules of issue oriented discussion. I could care less whether Mr. Welch has any other sexual preferences nor whether Ms. Kelly wears a lot of wigs. What silliness and easy to say, a plague on both of your houses regarding the governance of 209. Some of us have fought the corruption and patronage in 89 and 209 for almost 40 years. I remember horribly wintry nights in the winter of the late 60's and early 70's when Ron Burke, Bill Frazier, Jim Ivory, Bill Goggins and others including us "strange" white liberals who led boycotts of shopping in Melrose because of their total mismanagement and corrupt control of our school boards (along with a few, but influential minions who lived in Maywood but got a few leftover porkchops from the trough of the Danny Boy Coglianeses.) Power has shifted a little north to Maywood/Bellwood etc but the people in control, and some of those who oppose them still do not really care about the education of our children BUT, jobs and contracts. Can I say it any louder and clearer and, yes, I have always signed my real name for 40 years. And, yes, I do not give up on the real concerns of the overwhelming majority of our citizenry.

  • To Garywoll@comcast.net:

Your staying power as a politician is testimony to the fact that you have been looked upon favorably and continue to be looked upon favorably by the majority of your constituency.

I poke fun at you because I recall the days when there was more of a fire in your belly and you weren't hesitant about stating emphatic views rather than seemingly walking the fence as you do now. I've read your nondescript comments about Mr. Libka and the immigration issue, for examples, and I think that you are simply attempting not to offend anyone by expressing such innocuous views. I know you have deeper thoughts and feelings, and, I, for one, would like to read them. You don't necessarily have to answer these questions on this blog, but what do you really think about Mr. Libka's performance in District 209, the general impact that Mr. Welch has had on the betterment of the education of our students, etc.?

After all is said and done, you're a good man --- I'd just like to see you be more emphatic.

  • =To Gray Woll, IT is time that you take your fence rideing ass out of maywood politics. Your time has come for you to say good bye. You have been part of the problem in maywood. all the years you sat on the broad and now you want to play the great white hope of maywood by puting your self line up with the mayor. it is time that you say good bye. for good . you lost once before. and you will lose again.

  • 4 employees were terminated according to board meetings (posted on the D209's website). It doesn't indicate if these were support staff employees? I'm curious because a support staff senority list was issued a few weeks ago.

Is Philystine Murphy, the new Human Resource Manager being paid two salaries? From the minutes, it looks like she will be making a superintendent's salary for the position of HRM. THe HRM position salary was originally 50-60K. So which is it, two salaries, or one salary for both positions or is she stepping down from superintendent.

IF Proviso wants to save money, they can eliminate Steve Knox's position as head of ORS. Mr. Knox is suppose to help Special Ed students get jobs. Yet, he is never at Proviso East or West. HE only shows up on payday. The kids don't have jobs and no one is questioning why this man is getting paid over 80K a year.

  • I'm told that those "terminations" were actually retirees.

THE MURPHY DEAL IS JUST ANOTHER TRICK OF WELCH BACK DOOR DEAL MAKING TO KEEP A DOOR OPEN WITH THE BELLWOOD MAYOR. HE THINKS EVERYONE IS A WHORE FOR MONEY. THATS HIS ONLY WAY TO COLLABORATE BECAUSE HIS WORD MEANS NOTHING ...EVER.....

  • Did you know Melvin Berry was ousted from the Skokie school district for sexual harrassment?

    Someone should revoke his certificates.
