LABOR, Leyden High School questioned about non-union contractor [D212]
This summer $653,650 of roofing work will be done at East Leyden in Franklin Park and West Leyden in Northlake. See River Grove Messenger (Chuck Fieldman).
The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local 11 in Westchester objects to the use of the non-union Indiana-based contractor.
Illinois law requires contractors pay prevailing wages (union wages) but not that they be unionized. The union wants District 212 to check if the company is paying prevailing wages, but the district says it can't check.
The union is requesting the Illinois Department of Labor check.
