N06, President Danny Davis?
Congressman Danny K. Davis, who represents Maywood, Bellwood, Hillside, Broadview and other parts of Proviso Township, has declared he's willing to replace County Board President John Stroger on the ballot. See Sun-Times (Fran Spielman) or Defender (Kathy Chaney).
Under what circumstances would the Democratic Committeemen pick Davis to replace Stroger on the ballot?
I assume the committeemen don't want a reformer. In the past Davis mostly allied himself with the progressives, independents and reformers.
If Davis promised to not aggressively fight for reform he makes sense as a candidate. Davis has enough credibility with "White" liberals that he won't have the trouble with goo-goos defecting to Peraica that Todd Stroger will have.
Speaking of Todd Stroger...
I was struck by this line in Sun-Times (Fran Spielman) on May 6.
Under what circumstances would Todd Stroger avoid talking to John Stroger about the succession issue?
Here's the one that comes to mind: functionally John Stroger is in a coma.
The Stroger campaign, his family and his doctors duped the public into thinking there was some possibility he'd recover. I suspect when the facts are all known, it will become clear Stroger never had a chance of returning to his duties as county board president.
The media also enabled the bamboozling by continuing to show archival footage of Stroger in stories and not indicate it was archival footage.

Todd Stroger stressed that he and his father have not discussed the succession issue.

Something is wrong here, I heard Danny Davis say that he is not interested in any position other than the one he has. He would step the plate only out of necessity. He would gladly step up. So, this says that he is not interested in this position. Why would he give up his Congressman position when someone else can take Stroger’s position?

Why?
Here are some possible reasons:
1. Being in the House minority is boring.
2. He's tired of the travel required of a Congressman.
3. He thinks he could do more good as President of the County Board.
Anybody else have possibilities?

Rev Moon told him to do it

Carl this would be a great choice for cook county board President. You are right about the long and tiresome travels required by a Congressman . He could be at home spending more time with his family and doing the job of taking care of people right here in his own county. just think about it. what is a more effective position for his people here at home. the congressman is in the house minority. How much good is the congressman doing for our county and state in washington? He would be much more effective and helpful as the county board President. dont get me wrong because i feel he is doing a hell-of-a-job and has been during his tenure as congressman, but he will best sreve us by holding a high position right here at home.

Danny Davis doing a good job??
Somebody pinch me but is'nt his district one of the poorest or poorest in the nation???
Did it not lose so many jobs under his tenure to win the claim of poorest in the nation??
Danny and all these pimp politicians are a bunch of bums and need to get real and tell themselves the truth, they have no clue on how to better there lots with poor schools, drugs, gangs and ho's in the hood!
Tell me what or one thing Davis has done to better the community?
Tell me one thing Yarbrough has done to better the community?
Anwser: NOTHING,NEITHER HAS NOTHING!

Carl: This is what Danny Davis said on the Cliff Kelly Show. Do you think he is lying about not wanting the position? This wouldn't be the first time Danny was caught in a little lie...

To beaten path...
you should be beaten to make such stupid remarks about two of the best public servants in office today. I can only assume that you have not benefitted with a job, or a contract from either? The issue at hand is a discussion on DKD as county board president of which he is qualified and has the respect of most pols.
He is a reformer, an independent and would shake up the system. Hacks and patronage chiefs would not appreciate him but he would protect the most vunerable. A health care professional who advocates for the poor and down trodden would be a great addition.
I disagree that he is tired of traveling. SO what if the Democrats are in the minority---he has been effective. He's gotten legislation passed in a Republican controlled environment.
As much as I like him, I shudder to think who would take his seat. Dorothy Tillman has interest, but pleeeeeez, Ed Smith would be good, Ike--Carathers scares me, Yarbrough would be good,Walter Burnett has promise, Erlene Collins is too old, who else?

Good for danny.I hope he get it.

I dunno....could be lots worse than Davis... he sounds like God by the way. My wife sang in a Christmas pagent with him and he did the Bible Readings... I think he must sound like God....
don't know what good that will do him on the Cook County Board.

Dan Davis would clean up the corruption in Cook County government. There is a culture that exist there that could use a good scouring. He should be considered if he interested. Ed Smith is another pol that should be considered. He, has a proven track record of service. But, in both cases there would be an opening created and then who?
What about Congress? If Earlene Collins, Dorothy Tillman, Ike Coruthers are in consideration, that's unacceptable and just shows how we have not encouraged new talent.
Perhaps there should be a forum to discuss current elected officials, their viability and what they have done for the people they serve that would merit giving them a step up. I know what I read in the newspapers---carefully crafted press releases that show pols in a good light.

Danny Davis was on the County Board for years. He is part of the system of corruption. Why do you think the insiders want him? Because it will keep the status quo? The dumb ass readers on this blog need to learn what's really going on before commenting here. Carl, you really seem duped by Davis. But then again, if you look like that caricature, then I can see why you would be duped.

Davis is another broke down politician who can actually say he has been the main part of the problem on the West Side. His district under him has become the poorest district in the nation, with the highest crime rate and worst schools in the nation. Mr. Davis's district also has the largest amount of hospitals that are closest to closing in the nation, and he has not been able to improve there situation. Mr. Davis is an outright failure and has no clue how to govern.
No wonder the insiders are supporting him, they need another stooge to continue stealing and he is the perfect stooge!
By Anonymous, at 8:22 AM, May 15, 2006
Is the West Side poor and Black? Much of it.
How is this Davis' fault?
cynthia, when speaking about their own ambition it's like expected that politicians say what sounds right not what they really think. Politicians are ambitious. The game is too much grief to endure without personal ambition and vanity on the line.
How have I been duped by Davis?
By Carl Nyberg, at 11:06 AM, May 15, 2006
Carl: That is the lesson I learned about Chicago politics.
As far as any politician, I think if we look at their financial contributions, we will see who controls them.

Danny Daivs is a backbench Congressman that has not passed any legislation other than the normal crap that a trained monkey could do (social security matters, visa matters, etc).
He is a backstabber, undercutting Bobbie Steele for the job of County Board President.
And now he is going to be the modern day Gene Sawyer who let Ed Burke poke his finger in his face to become mayor, now he is letting Dick Mell force him into the job.
Other than a deep baritone voice, there is nothing spectacular about Davis.

Warning.
Don't post under "anonymous". I delete this posts normally. If more than one person posts as "anonymous" it gets confusing.
Danny Davis is smart enough to be County Board Prez, IMO. Bobby Steele isn't.
By Carl Nyberg, at 5:44 PM, May 15, 2006
Given the condition of the West Side, I would say neither has much to hang their hat on.
If the pool is only as deep as Davis, Steele, Carothers, Smith, Hendon, etc....then there are deep problems....
plus, after hearing Davis co-host a radio program on WVON 1450-AM on Sunday nights @ 10:00pm with Garfield Major, I do not think he can represent all the people of Cook County. He sits like a bump on a log while Garfield Major makes the most outrageous, racist comments this side of Louie Farrahkhan. Davis needs to distance himself from that show.
P.S. - why offer anonymous as a choice if it is a problem ? just curious.

I continue to find it very interesting that Cynthia makes statements about people without any proof to back it up == for example she suggests that Davis lies -- I hope she has the proof to back it up.
I only hope that people will review the facts and not what they think happened or what somebody told them happened.
I agree that Danny Davis can do more good here in his own county. The nation's capitol is Republican, thus limiting the ability of any Democrat to make substantial changes.

I'm in agreement with the fact that County Government needs fresh representation without any political ties like Dorothy Brown -
