KLEPT, George Ryan guilty on ALL counts

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald got his man. To learn why Fitzgerald is considered the Terminator read Billmon.

If Dan K. Webb of Winston and Strawn couldn't save Ryan on a single charge, what are the odds people like Vito Scavo, Ron Serpico and Eugene Moore will be able to beat charges if indicted?

Ryan going down on all charges should make a number of people being investigated nervous.

The media and public are going to equate "so-and-so was indicted by Patrick Fitzgerald" to "so-and-so's ass is G-U-I-L-T-Y."

  • I feel bad for Mr. Ryan. It seems that once he released those prisoners from Death Row, an awful lot of powerful people got really pissed. Who knows, if he hadn't done that, maybe the feds would not have actually indicted him. A federal indictment is akin to a conviction. Their conviction rate is 98%. That is why so many people just cooperate and plea bargain. I feel that Ryan got a bum rap. Then again, many lower level politicians have gotten railroaded in the federal system as well. Remember, the indictment of Ryan didn't occur until 2 years after he was out of office. Then again, that was probably because of the previous U.S. Attorneys in the Nortern District of Illinois were hacks who only prosecuted small political fish. Mr. Fitzgerald has absolutely no bias one way or the other, and that's a wonderful thing. He is not beholden to the political powers in this state because they did not sign off on his appointment. There are probably some very disappointed people who are associated with the 5th Floor of City Hall. This unanimous conviction may propel the U.S. Attorney's Office to accelerate their Hired Truck investigation.

  • George Ryan will be treated very very nicely in prison and will have a lot of respect from the fellow inmates for what he did with the Death Penalty

Just think about the Willis family who lost six kids in an accident involving a man who got his license through Ryan. If he knew what was going on, shame on him. If he turned his back on what was going on, shame on him.

The key word in your statement is "if". Ofcourse, if he knew that his employees were taking bribes to issue drivers license than that is absolutely reprehensible. I have not heard anything in all these years that confirms that he had direct knowledge that this was going on. Now, I'll grant you that once it became apparent that was happening, he didn't aggressively pursue that and actually hindered his office's investigation. All of our lives were endangered his idiotic employees were selling driving licenses to unqualified drivers.

  • If he was prosecuted, all politicans should be prosecuted. I bet you can find dirt on absolutely every single one...

  • The driver whose vehicle killed the Willis children got his license at the Melrose Park facility.

    See Belleville News Democrat (AP).

  • Cynthia, you have a point, and you can find dirt at your very own family reunion. Let's ummmmmmmm start with CUZO!

How hypocritical of him! He wanted to pass a law where politicans cannot take campaign contributions from vendors and contractors. If that law existed it would have hurt his $150,000 bid for state rep. His mailings were so nice and colorful, all NINE of them. Who paid for those CUZO? The students from district 209 or the crooked "politricks" of your CUZO?

You should have no comment on dirty politicans because your comments defend the DIRTEST man in Proviso Township. It's a family affair CUZO! Dirt runs in the family, HUH?
