CRIME, Jonathan Carter's sentence sticks [M]

  • Jonathan was my student when he was a freshman at Proviso East. I cannot say I'm surprised by his fate because the poor kid was a mess--couldn't read, parents "couldn't" make him come to school (one day when the truant officer came for him he stuck his hand through the plate glass window at home, hurting himself rather than anybody else), was a skinny little runt (always begging candy from me). It's ironic that he couldn't even pull a decent robbery--that it turned into a murder. I'm glad his sentence stuck, but I'm sorry to see another Maywood kid lost to the prisons.
