GOV, should Illinois discontinue township government?

The Inside Dope questions the need for township government. Some Proviso Probe readers are critical of township government. What would you tell The Inside Dope about Proviso Township government to help make the case for eliminating township government in Illinois?

  • Of all township goverments, Proviso is the most useless township goverment in the whole state. Starting with Kathy"What day is it" Ryan, who doesn't know a thing, and continueing with Don"OT" Sloan and Tim"Angry Dwarf" Gillian to Tony"I'm from Melrose Park" Williams to Jesse"Next Mayor of Melrose Park"Martines,to Mike Corrigan who does nothing and Danny Coglinese who runs mental Health, that whole system is a joke! Township govt. needs to be eliminated.

  • I think that township government should be abolished and its powers largely moved to the county level; however, I also think that municipalities should be required to hold an "annual town meeting" just like every township, where the citizens get to decide issues by majority vote. If a township can do it, there's no reason that a City, Village, or Incorporated Town can't.
