I now have a precinct map of Proviso Township. The following villages are in Proviso Township.

Bellwood
Berkeley
Broadview
Brookfield has 11 of 22 precincts in Proviso.
Forest Park
Hillside
La Grange Park is entirely in Proviso.
Maywood
Oak Brook has a partial precinct in Proviso, the 93rd.
Melrose Park has all but two precincts in Proviso.
Northlake has 3 of 13 precincts in Proviso.
Stone Park
Westchester
Western Springs has one precinct in Proviso.

  • Not to be a nag, but Proviso Township should have its own web site.

  • Proviso Township (39 North), like all townships (exception fractionals created when a natural land feature like a lake/river prevented a true square)was a 6x6 square mile area mapped out by Lewis and Clark. It began at roughly Harlem and North Av. Extend a line 6 miles south and west then six miles north and east and you get the township as surveyed.

River Forest dropped out in 1938. Riverside/Brookfield in the early 50's?

Oak Park split from Cicero township at the beginning of the 20th Century. (A century of progress?)

Townships were the recongnized political authority for the square unitl communities incorporated within. The intervening 200 years have created much political messy yellow buildup. Since political survival was tantamount, past lawmakers passed laws assuring their place in perpetuity and creating a veritable mega-mall of taxing bodies with little to no accountability.

Good luck with the Humpty Dumpty project of putting things back together.
