ED, cheap teachers [D209]
Pioneer Press reports the District 209 teachers are giving $200 to help 15,000 of their union sisters and brothers forced to evacuate due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita. That comes to less than two cents per IFT member evacuated. And the union members are kicking in a dollar a piece or a little less.
Here's a tip for Pioneer Press when covering charitable giving. If the money given for the charitable cause is less than it would take to purchase the space in the paper as an advertisement, it's probably too small a contribution to be newsworthy.

I think the 19% raise over four years deserves about 1,000 times the coverage of the $200 charity contribution.
But Pioneer Press gave them about equal coverage. It's a bad editorial call.
Although, I'd be embarassed to send out a press release on a $200 contribution if I worked for a union. $200 is what kids raise at a bakesale.

To 209sucks and Carl:
Why don't you talk to some teachers - you might find out not all teachers are as ignorant and small-minded as you are. Before you spread your bitter opinions about the teachers, come sit in a classroom. Though its hard to enlighten some people like yourselves who has attitudes set in concrete, it would be a hoot to see your reaction to some students and abilities, and then judge how nice the teachers have it.

I bet the house the 209 teachers have donated more to Katrina Relief than Carl Nyberg. How much have you donated Carl? If anything, post a link to a copy of the canceled check or receipt for donated items.

Damn. The teachers have a hard enough time trying to dodge the school politics of Welch and Moored, trying to teach their students and being under paid. Give them a break why don't cha?
Some of these comments are childish for sure.
