grand opening of magnet school

Any readers want to give their impressions of the event?

One person said Paul Davis of Danielle Ashley, Emanuel "Chris" Welch's overpaid PR firm, hosted the event.

Apparently Davis mispronounced the names of the mayors.

D209 pays Danielle Ashley $125-175 per hour. They're a PR firm that hires former journalists. And they can't pronounce names of mayors correctly?!

Chris, if you need someone that can shill for you in the newspaper and pronounce Serpico, Calderone, Yarbrough and Pasquale, I'll do it for half what Danielle Ashley is charging D209. But I won't give you the kickback to your campaign fund. Is this a problem?

  • Gene "Fragile Flower"'Moore was dressed to the "tens", and was jabbering about what a nice school it was! While in the bowels of the new school, Chris and the boys, were torturing to death(by tickling), Manzo and his boys! What a sight all those B.S.'ers in one building!

  • Rumors at the opening abounded with ,that Serpico from Melrose was planning to step down within one year, and he was talking about his replacement. The majority of insiders agreed that Chris Welch should get the appointment to fill out his term! It is a GENIUS move! Serpico retires, and appoints Welch(who would have to move in Melrose Park), and it would show all Chicagoland that truely Melrose Park has changed and that the town can shed it's mafia past! Also Welch would bring stability into Melrose Park and his working knowledge of finances will help make the transition easy.Welch reaches out into all communities,White,Italian,Hispanic as well as black! This move postions Welch in the future to run for County wide office!

  • I noticed how sad & dejected the students from East/West looked.

    After everyone cooed all over the "elite" students in a brand-new school with laptops for every student, & you name it... What'd the 40 million pay for for the students who have been "left behind?".

  • Where was the residents who paid for this new school? I heard that they were all working that day, so the poor souls can come up with the tax money to pay for Bruno, Welch, Calderone and Serpico's expenses!

  • why does 209 need a public relation firm? Why are we spending are hard earn tax money on something as foolish as that? The taxpayers of Proviso should do a class action law suit against the 209 board and there administrators, for unneccessary spendings!

  • Pasquale looked bitter at the opening. He seemed unhappy at the turn of events. Pasquale was double crossed by Moore and Welch in the Township election and in the 209 election, both his girls,Herrell and Alcaraz, were dropped in Maywood and Westchester, and they both lost! Pasquale gave money,time and people to help Moore,and Welch and he was given a slap by those two! Thay made a chump of Pasquale!

  • Some Math & Science for District 209

    Source: 2004 School Report Card

    Listed Enrollment: 4992
    # of Seniors: 571
    Dropout rate: 3.7%
    Mobility rate: 16.6
    Graduation rate 71.1

    Applying the above there are:
    184 Dropouts
    828 students move in or out of the district

    Logical assumption:
    20% of the student body are gone over the course of a year.

    Observations:
    Only 12% of its students attain 12th grade status.
    Only 71.1% of them graduate (405)

    Proviso is responsible for the HS education of all of the district’s HS students.
    According to the elementary district report cards, there should be 9,500 HS students
    in district 209. If only 52% of the students are in 209 schools, where are the rest?

    If half the students are not there and 20% of those who do go do not finish the year,
    209 fails for 70% of its students.

    For this service they spent $6 million more than they took in.
    Now, with a third school to staff and operate, that deficit will undoubtedly rise dramatically.

  • tHE PROFF WILL BE IN THE PUDDING FOR THIS NEW SCHOOL. wHEN THESE KIDS ARE JUNIORS (IF THEY have enuf money to keep the place open) we'll see what the ACT scores are. If they're above 25, then I'd say their promises may be true. What happened to the $ the Board said would be used for renovations to East and West? Ask the teachers at East and West how much fun it was to teach in 100 degree classrooms while PMSA has air conditioning. Also heard that all the students have laptops. Why is it that it's not impt. to educate the rest of Proviso students? Where will they end up?

  • I'm sure Welch and Bruno would air condition both schools if they can make a buck or two out of it! Also those kids at the Math and Science academy will do very well on there ACT scores, because they are naturally great students and wil do well where ever they go!
